I don't know what it is... maybe I've been living in Essex too long, or maybe it's too many repeats of 1970s cop shows, but I'm starting to vaguely about getting a capri smile

I'm currently looking for a reasonably rapid, RWD coupe with enough boot space for a mountain bike (minus wheels) and a bit of fun factor. Starting to think if there are some more unusual alternatives to the standard 944 or 3 series coupe responses and wondered if a 2.8 capri would make any sense?

Whatever I get has to be feasible as an only car commuting 13,000 miles a year in all weathers. It has to be reliable with a degree of practicality, but I'd prefer to go for a 'modern classic' with a bit of character too.

Just wanted to know a bit more about them. What sort of money do they go for these days? How reliable are they? How thirsty? Whats the handling like? What sort of performance figures do they return? (all relating to a standard car)
I am a capri fan and would recommend a capri 2.8i as a regular driver, get a goodun keep on top of the mechanicals and it wont fail you, fairly straight forward to do due to the lack of nasa computers! Another reccomendation of mine seeing you like bmw's is a good E28 M535i as much fun as a v6 capri that bit faster, try get one with a dogleg gear box, seats five if you need it and also mechanically easy to deal with. Also agree with you on the xr4i front, i had one of these very nice car, and are quite low priced now so a good time to buy a good one or a resto project banghead

Not sure about a capri as a daily hack. Its sad but i still get excited to take my 3.0 capri out for a spin. If i took it out every day would i just get used to it & start to dream of the air-con & stereo in my mundano? Scary thought that!

hi there
i have a 2.8 as a daily driver , but mine is standard diff removed the lsd , and i find it a great car but to be honest unless you are driving capris regularly i would recommend a 2.0 s/laser as better fuel economy less tail happy , and more user friendly, and maybe you could even get the 2.0 dohc as 130 bhp from the box , straight exchange , and modern engine in old car {best of both worlds }witha little help from CAPRISPORT.COM you could even leave in the injection or fit carbs instead ,
my beasty {3.2 turbo capri } isnt a daily driver you only take her out when dry and with an empty stomach , very scarey but hugely fun car too , it should be back on the road this weekend after 12 months off road due to turbo packing up ..... and my little boy being born and house and all the usual stuff that stops us from working on projects , only 3 other capris to do after this and 5 motorbikes as well no problems .....
