Well thats a few terminated memberships!

Having not been there myself, I can't comment on the actual weekend!

But

I will say that all events run by volunteers take alot of hard work and effort! Be it a sunday football match or Back Home! Volunteers all have day/night jobs and have to give up endless hours of spare time to make things happen (i know this from personal experience) Maybe, instead of moaning at the organisers this year, you should be offering help and support for next year! Make it a team effort!
I have been involved in organsing events for various things, and the last one was a sunday afternoon hillwalk which took 6 months to plan and prepare! So a weekend of TVRness can't be at all easy!

Speaking as a first timer to 'Back Home', not sure what the fuss is all about. My family very much enjoyed the weekend.

Despite the problems with the cavalcade and the 'band' there were a lot of things which went very well: the overall planning and joining instructions were ok, the Saturday meal was good, the disco was enjoyable, the company was excellent, the collection of cars attending was great, the concours seemed to have been enjoyed judging by some of the pictures (and despite the rain), the hotel was fine and the hotel car park security arrangements I'm sure were gratefully appreciated. In particular, the factory tour was excellent and run like clockwork despite the numbers of us visiting, whilst still allowing a reasonable amble through the factory.

Assuming the organisers haven't been put off from organising another event by some of the negative comments here, I'm looking forward to the next one.

I have to agree. I am sure that regulars will want to compare to the year when XYZ happened, But the organisers did a very good job and everything in their control appeared to run smoothly (probably the usual "swan" syndrome!).

It was a really enjoyable weekend all round!

Hmmmm, reading this thread it looks like most people had an enjoyable weekend and most want to go back next year. That sounds like an endorsement to me - a big thank you to the organisers

Only the people who turned up just for the cavalcade seem rather upset. All I can suggest is that next year you book your Back Home tickets early !

Look lets put this one to bed
Not everyone wants to turn up for the whole event!
The idea is we can pick and choose.
There is no criticism of C and J. Boy do I know the event takes loads of organising. They did a great job by all accounts. Glad they do it and not me. I just organise the odd trip out and weekends away and thats a ball buster!
All that was asked for was an explanantion. It seems thats what we got, but I do feel there should be something in Sprint to explain to the masses.
There was no mention to the masses that it was to be a 10 vehicle at a time release and obey the lights. Thats not a cavalcade.
Communicating events is important as I for one and a few others would not have driven across for the "small groups drive" if thats what was expected.
May be Im driven to help next year. Thats if Carol hasnt stopped my membership! (joke trying to inject humour into whats become a sore subject)

My point was everyone (sort of) had a good time on the weekend package. I want to go next year.

After reading this thread for the last few days I thought I would have my say. As the TVRCC's main social event of the year I thought it was a great success. Yes social event which it is and has aways been with some TVR related activity.

I would just like to thank Clive and Jane for all the hard work they put. I would also like to thank them and Richard for putting up with a drunken bum Friday night or should I say Saturday morning.

I agree, with the exception of the band, Clive and Jane did a fantastic job, the entertainment bit will come but I have been five years on the trot now and enjoyed it as much as any other time, barring the year we had the blues brothers band.

As for the cavalcade, it's crap most years. Last year we had drunken yobs spitting at the cars and people overheating in the traffic in older models. I'm giving it a miss in future....

C&J... don't let anyone put you off, you did a great job and we all appreciate it.

From what I can make of the responses on this list it seems that everyone agrees that the Calvalcade was an unfortunate disaster due to lack of 100% Police commitment and a complete lack of communications on the day, which is why many people where unhappy. So to move forward may I suggest the following course of actions for next year ( and before anyone shouts I am more than willing to lend a hand )

1. Ensure we get 100% cooperation from the Police to include a full escort and if necessary a temporary closure of the Prom. If they mention limits or batches we should just can the idea

2. The meeting point is an area where we do not line up nose to tail so that communications can more easily be achieved

3. To make the parade more impressive we set the cars off in model year. Implementing 2 would make this far easier.

As for some of the suggestions that only the people who turned up to the cavalcade are the ones making noises this is simply not true - I am living proof. Saturday ( when I arrived ) was excellent and the factory tour on Sunday very informative. And as Gemini points out everybody is free to turn and up and attend as they wish.

At the end of the day if we don't point out where things go wrong and suggest improvements as I think people have done, then things will never get better.
