Right over the years I've heard several different versions including different versions from people in the same main dealers, so can we have a vote and tie this one up for good.

Is it.

Chi-meer-ra
Shy-meer-ra
Ki-meer-ra
Chim-eer-a
Shim-eer-a
Cam-eer-a
or any others....

I like others hate chimp (griff I can live with) and assume it's often used by lazy people who don't know how it should be said and don't want to look a prat. trying.

I've always said Chim – era

As in Shear – er

But I might have to start saying Ky – meera if that's what the majority think – don't want to sound like a twat.

Have a look at www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=10716&f=8&h=0

Various sources inc the online dictionaries suggest kye-MEE-ruh / kye-MARE-ra ('mare' as in 'wear')

Merriam-Webster have an audio pronouncitaion guide at www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/audio.pl?chimae01.wav=chimaera

First letter is "chi" so it is a hard "C".

Reading the squiggles it looks like:-

Chi iota mu alpha iota rho alpha
K i m a i r a

Good to see that one of the three heads of the beast was near its arse. That kind of logic seems to have been preserved in the car's wiring.

Another definition:

'An imaginary monster made up of grotesquely disparate parts.'

I'll admit that its an American accent, but the pronounciation appears correct.

I vote for 'Kai-MEER-uh' too. Chimaera is a biological/genetic term meaning an organism which contains the genes from two disparate organisms; a sort of hybrid but not quite. For example, my mum had a tree which flowered in one colour on one side and a different colour on the other side. Both sets of genetic info were there, but they hadn't quite mixed...

The 3-headed dog is Cerberus, and you can guess which model of TVR he ended up as. (Funny to hear non-owners calling it a Sir-BEER-er ... )

You can kinda understand the problems people have with the 'C' cars, but how many times have I heard people say... normally in a 'Oh Yes I know everything' voice, 'Yeh thats a TVR... A Griffin'

*Pah*

simpo one ... you're right about cerberus, but chimaera is also a three headed monster (goat, lion and snake) ... which is one hell of a naming convention.

More commonly known in the plant community as a "sport" which is, I suppose, quite appropriate! Rich...
