Spelling 'Chimaera' properly would be good too.

I know someone who calls mine a Cham-ara.

Even though I told him how it was pronounced.

1. A deep-sea cartilaginous fish of the family Chimaeridae, having a smooth-skinned tapering body and a whiplike tail.

2. An organism, organ, or part consisting of two or more tissues of different genetic composition, produced as a result of organ transplant, grafting, or genetic engineering.

3. A substance, such as an antibody, created from the proteins or genes or two different species.
An individual who has received a transplant of genetically and immunologically different tissue.

4. A fanciful mental illusion or fabrication.

5. A fire-breathing she-monster usually represented as a composite of a lion, goat, and serpent.

6. An imaginary monster made up of grotesquely disparate parts.

But to me she'll always by my baby!!!

The 3-headed dog is Cerberus, and you can guess which model of TVR he ended up as. (Funny to hear non-owners calling it a Sir-BEER-er ... )

Someone called a SER-ber-ah (IMO!) that the other day - took about three repetitions before I figured out what he was talking about.

Went on a blast last year with 4 other TVRs and then parked up. We overheard a passerby talking to her husband "Look at those cars, what are they? Lotuses?".
I kid you not. She is probably blissfully unaware to this day.

The pronounciation of Cerbera is on the TVR website.

Were Chimaera and Cerbera brothers? IIRC they were the guardians of the gates of hell.

Well, Cerberus (not Cerbera) was the 3-headed dog that guarded the gates of hell. Contrary to what Harry Potter would have you believe, Cerberus wasn't called 'Fluffy' either.

Chimaera and Cerberus were siblings as far as I can tell from the following:
www.perseus.tufts.edu/Herakles/cerberus.html
quote:
Cerberus' parents were the monster Echinda (half-woman, half-serpent) and Typhon (a fire-breathing giant covered with dragons and serpents). Even the gods of Olympus were afraid of Typhon.

Among the children attributed to this awful couple were Orthus (or Othros), the Hydra of Lerna, and the Chimaera. Orthus was a two-headed hound which guarded the cattle of Geryon. With the Chimaera, Orthus fathered the Nemean Lion and the Sphinx. The Chimaera was a three-headed fire-breathing monster, part lion, part snake, and part goat.

(Isn't Google wonderful? )

Excellent, a whole thread where everyone agrees on the pronounciation and no-one tries to indroduce stupid abbreviations.
Well done to Mel for stamping that one out in his initial post!
Cheers........ Andrew
