I don't see your logic here. I've had to change the clutch slave twice but havn't touched the clutch. You seem to be assuming that the slave won't fail before a clutch needs replacing, but I've heard so many stories of slaves failing very quickly (within 5000 miles) that I can't see how that can be true. I'd rather eliminate the risk by having a piece of kit fitted that was designed to do the job properly.
You're right, i was assuming they last, which was a little naive, hadnt realised the standard items failed that quickly, from anecdotal evidence i thought the pressure plate was the typical failure......so i absolutely see the logic in the raceproved item now...
I think the seals on the AP unit were upgraded a while back.

More involved than I thought but still not beyond my cababilities. Looks like I will order one for when mine goes, Still fine after nearly 17K miles over 8 years. Where's the guide?
Sorry, I gave the name of the wrong contact. Not 'Mark.' but 'Mad Mark'. You'll have to get in contact with him as the link to it from his profile doesn't seem to be working.Basil Brush said:
The problem from my experience is that the slave seal failures were time-related (c.4 years), where as the clutch fingers are use related (c.20-25k miles) Fine if you're doing 6k miles a year like I used to, as they both needed swapping around the same time, but not so great if only doing 2k a year so the slave seals go at 8k.
I think the seals on the AP unit were upgraded a while back.
4 years per slave? Mine failed 3 times in 4 years, which is not particularly unusual according to the anecdotal evidence. It is not unheard of for them to go again within a few months. Then again you might get lucky and get several years out of one. That's just it, they are unpredictable, and threaten to leave you stranded anytime, anywhere! I have always had new items fitted (not just seal kit) too. My current one has lasted longer than average ....gulp.I think the seals on the AP unit were upgraded a while back.
In comparison, my clutch lasted for 43k miles and 10 years before the fingers gave out.
It sounds like the raceproved slave is the way to go, must get one!
