So If I am running on Optimax or Super unleaded all the time can I advance my ignition (guess it depends what it's set to now?) if so to what? Should I expect to get any perfomance gains( given actually need to advance it) how do I check the timimg

Ideally you'd need a Rover V8 expert (e.g. Mark Adams) and a rolling road to work out the optimal advance. But then you'd have to make sure you really can get Optimax everywhere you go, or put in Octane booster. Optimax is supposed to be around 98, so even normal super unleaded wouldn't do (97).

Iam probably wrong but, i did mine by advancing until pinking and return back so as not to pink. Of course temperatures have a say in pinking.
