I did hear someone suggesting putting an ls in there and they should be shot !!!
Ahem! ..even I wouldn't consider putting an LS in it if I was thinking about taking the project on. Got to be an original if at all possible....wonder what the unit cost of recreation would be if a number of engines were made. Group buy anyone?

TBH it's worth what someone is prepared to pay for it and if that figure is more than you want to offer doesn't mean it's a stupid offer.
I agree with Graham, cars like this shouldn't just be mothballed they're meant to race and bringing a car back to race prep in it's proper guise isn't bdising it far from it it's the complete opposite.
As I mentioned above part of the eesoration process should be getting some moulds off it just in case.

Sorry I disagree!
That car is going to cost over £100K to restore it back to orginality. If somebody pays over £50-60K for it as it is now and then finds they can't restore it back to originality and then bung in a stupid engine then its bdising it.
What Gaham was saying about even just putting in a dead SP12 engine and having it as a rolling (By hand) car is the best way, and in a way I agree!
Ref value, the Cerbie SP12 could not be sold for £120K and with the resto on this car being around £100K plus the purchase price it means £160K + so its stupid money especally as there are so many unkowns about an engine etc.
If its was to help keep normal TVR prices up then yes if they can afford it great!
But I fear not!

I agree if someone offers too much and then can't finish the job properly it would be wrong. I also think putting it back to running status with a V12 of different origin is wrong and in that case Graham's suggestion of a dead Speed 12 is preferable IMO.
However, if they have enough money to do the job right and put a new Speed 12 in, which as I mentioned is very 'doable' these days that is the way to do it.
All my opinion of course but if my numbers come up tonight (yea right) that's what will be happening

We agree, but I will fight you for it if my numbers come up tonight, might even buy another couple just in case!

Hi I am new to this forum and to Piston Heads.
I can not believe that the 12 has popped up for sale it should be in a museum somewhere, it always had its issues from day one, as it had to have the exhausts run down the tunnel, and the body at the start was supposed to come off, for working on.. that brief created a lot of installation problems with bulkheads etc and made the centre tunnel so wide the drivers view was obscured. Hope it goes to a good home... it was a real head turner....

Did you ever work at the factory? I notice you are based in lancs.
My guess is that you are looking at an easy £100k spend after purchase to get it to factory spec.
On top of that, you'd want it to work properly so spend more to get it better than factory.
After having a handful of original blocks made and creating working engines, taking moulds of the shell and ultimately becoming fixated with getting tiny but important details right you will have spent more on top.
You could probably get it running with someone else's V12 and cutting multiple corners where people can't see but I think that would be a waste of the original purchase outlay.
