This scenario repeats itself 3 more times ! However, on attempt 2 I noticed that they had their windows wound down, and when they went by they stuck their heads out to listen.

The most common salute for any Tiv from people that know what they are .
The other salute is the kids with their noses on the windows as you go past, obviously after being forewarned by the driver that a nice car is coming up . Never disappoint them with a quiet roll by

Well, bloke accross the road just made a threat to insert my head in the engine. Not the words he used. Annoying thing is I don't rev it outside the house, 400's eh.

Same here - we live in a single entrance private village thingy and one guy (who's always our polishing his Jag & carvan) always scowls/stares as I drive past in the Chim. Never sure whether he likes the car or objects to the sports exhaust....

The other great reactions I've had have include max'd saxo kids at the petrol station drooling over it for ages, was hard to say that I didn't share the same for their's though..

Good one last week was when leaving MK by joining the A5 to come back south and a whole load of 'scrotes' stopped eyeing up cars to nick and gave me a thumbs up... Public service really - like to think I stopped at least one car being nicked )

Everybody who's sat in it always says 'well built aren't they?' then they either shreek or grin depending on their views of acceleration...

Gicve him a nice big wave and smile. He will hate it, because you are happy and he is not. As for the bloke who wants to shut someone's head in the bonnet, stop and ask 'Why do you want to do that then'? You'll find they're just angry losers with no powers of communication. The modern world is too complicated for them to understand, so they get cross. (cf Phil Mitchell of EastEnders fame.)

When people question the reliability of TVRs I would like to know what supercars are reliable? Its only recently Ferrari and Maserati have got their act together,as all you could rely on from them was for them to breakdown. As for German superiority I had a one year old BMW 523i with windows that rattled a failed Clutch master cylinder and ultimately a new engine!

Tivs are as famous for their reliability as Maradonna is for cheating. You may not like it, but that's the way it is.

Well, I do a fair few miles around this little island of ours, and in the last 6 years (since I got my first TVR) I can say that I've only ever seen one TVR at the side of the road.
At the moment, I'd say the most common vehicles to be seen awaiting the services of an AA man are Landie Discovery's and.... BMWs!!!!!
Though to be fair, most of the Disco's seem to be driven by women, and most of the BMWs are ratty shitheaps with squaddies/ druggies at the wheel... or rather on the mobile, looking for a tow.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH........... :-D

Just wanted to add (getting back to the original post) that as I walked up to my Chim in the car park at the Silverstone grand prix recently, a young boy looked past a ferrari, jag and others, and yelled at his dad - look a TVR! The playstation influence?

Anyway made me grin

Only a bloody standard 400

400 SE (420 and a few mods)
OK this is what was done as per DJE's words (copied from his report).
Factory Gemini Cross Bolted Block, 400 grit bore finish. De-burred block
and decked, 9.351 compression. 218 fast road cam. High rev lifters.
Steel timing chain set. Index ground crankshaft. New bearings
throughout, new fixings, composite gaskets. Stage 3 med valve heads,
ported, custom valve and seat job, multi angle. Short and bullet guide,
chamber blend, dual springs and retainers, shimmed up, O ring stem
seals. Trumpet base shortened. Bored out plenum butterfly. Lucas 14 CUX
hot-wire. Custom chip to suit. Lightened flywheel. Up rated oil pump
base. Pressure relief valve altered. Lifter pre load set. Also rocker
covers coloured as per car and plenum top. And a 12,000 mile warranty
subject to DJE servicing.
Also the sump has been baffled. It runs on Vavoline racing oil, not
synthetic (due to the design) and has a change every 3000 miles. The
block is newish 3.9 Range Rover (3 yrs ?) hence the alternator is on the
other side to the norm, and other ancillaries had to be relocated.
Red line is 5500. On paper the engine is good for 275 BHP but there was
no time to do a proper Dyno test as I was moving back to Wales and DJE
is in Nuneaton. This figure comes from the basic expected O/P and then
the mods that DJE carried out (each one having a set gain). 5 BHP for
each valve and guide customed for example

Sorry, mate, I couldn´t resist

I was driving through Callendar yeterday in my S2000, and two kids were walking by...one says "oohh a TVR", his mate looks at him in disgust and says "Nah - thats a Honda".

If thats not an illustration of petrolhead and non-petrolhead, then I dont know what is...

S2000 is a decent enough "Rice Rocket"...highly reliable, well engineered and you don't have to drive it during the day...no one can see you at night

Why do you have to buy a car built by cruel people from the other side of the world?

They do not need your help

had a nice comment yesterday I absolutely want to share with you:

having filled up the Griff at the gasstation, I go to the payment counter, the guy behind the counter says:
"can you drive that on the public road? isn't it too fast for that?"

now we're talking

An unusual reaction, and one I'm not quite sure how to take: exiting a roundabout the other evening and one of the fine, upstanding young men of Surbiton decided he should moon at me from the pavement.

It looked as though he was smiling so I took it as a compliment .....

Before anyone puts the boot in - this does not happen every day (or any day really)

In petrol station, Jamaican lady asks if I have a Porsche as well, I say "No thanks" - so she asks for my phone number!

Maybe he wanted a "how loud is your exhaust" competition
