Realistically (in order):

Noble M12 GTO
Ferrari 355
Porsche 911 (993)

I thought we were talking realistically?

My 'realistically' is definitely not Roadsweeper's 'realistically' ...

If no TVR I'd have a Sunbeam Tiger Mark II ... 4.2V8 I think ...

Hmm... Noble M12 GTO would be high on the list, but I'd fancy something "different"... perhaps a Venturi...

How about a BWM M Roadster? It's got 321bhp, 0-60 in 5.3, a nicely ballanced drive, doesn't go wrong but comes with stacks of warrenty, electric hood (that works), CD player (that you can hear) and you can use it every day, making it an ideal second car to your TVR!

I would resign myself to the inevitable and purchase a Prescott family car (Micra 1.0)

My old Eunos Roadster Nothing like it for handling and grin factor. (Hmm nostalgia creeping in here)

Failing that a bike engined Westy.

That said hope I can keep the Griff for a while yet

That's a tricky one since I've always lusted after the TVR brand and can't see myself driving anything else. There is nothing out there in the 35-55k range that would satisfy me, possibly a second hand Ferrari 355 or Aston Martin DB7 but these would only be temporary solutions until I could afford one of the following:

Lister Storm GTL
Lamborghini Murcielago
Jaguar XJ220
Ferrari F60
Pagani Zonda
Mercedes GT (the £1million one)

A few years work in any of them though!

For me it would have to be a Caterfield type car or something really big, rude and politically incorrect, such as a big block American heap (or a GMC Typhoon maybe.)

(Heading off the Santa Pod now to drool over the muscle cars).
