Hi Ged, I had a look at the engine yesterday and noticed that the right hand manifold is sooted up (jet black) and the left hand is OK a nice a nice off white colour, after talking to my son he told me that before the car failed the most it would run okay till it got hot, then it would stutter when you tried to accelerate, and no fault codes would show up, he had the lambda sensors changed which made no difference, he then changed the water temp sensor and it improved slightly, any ideas?

I'm not 100% sold on the new colour scheme though, not as classy as the silver...

Ha ha, it was a choice between the daily mirror and a freebie, so I went with the cheapest.

Hello mate, you're better off speaking to someone like "blitzracing" (Mark Thompson) on Pistonheads - his email address is Mark@blitzracing.co.uk I think. What he doesn't know about the engine and fuelling isn't worth knowing.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Jim, thats looking really good. Just one thing though I'd turn that bolt around in the front lower wishbone, otherwise you'll not get it out when the bodies back on. Hopefully the need won't arise but you never know.

OK thanks, does it matter which way round the rears go?

I would have all the heads 'inboard' if that makes sense. So every bolt no matter which side comes out towards the suspension.

Disaster strikes, I thought as the sun was shining today I would clean the engine up and replace the valley gasket, nearly finished as it was starting to go dark, just the right hand rocker cover to fit, whilst trying to locate the screw I heard something rattle in the engine, couldn't see anything obvious at first, then I noticed the small collet in the rocker gasket bolt hole was missing, looked in towards the valves and noticed the exhaust valve was wide open, so I suspect its dropped in, I'm going to try and fish it out with a magnet glued into a length of flexible tube, failing that I will have to remove the head, will my new valley gasket be OK to reuse or should I replace that too.

How's the rebuild going mate?
Hi Ged, do you know the torque sequence and settings for both the inlet manifold and the cylinder head, I was putting the rocker cover back yesterday when I heard something drop in the engine, the only thing I could see was the small collet from the bolt hole in the rubber gasket, I can't see it anywhere so I have to assume it's dropped down into the bore through the open exhaust valve.rolleyes

Engine nice and clean, I had to helicoil two of the exhaust manifold bolts after they snapped.
