New TVR still under wraps!

Personally, I think that it is right that the people who lobbed their hard earned money at this venture should absolutely be the first to see it. In a corporate world obsessed by other priorities it's refreshing to see them put their first and bold customers firmly at the front of the queue and to seek their views ahead of us.
Hmmm I'd agree but really don't understand the philosophy. A handful of deposit holders are going to comment on your design, when you could have the whole of the world help modify your design?I think it smacks of managing your kickstarter group which I guess is an acceptable point of view. It just seems a bit insular.
Show the world a super design and the order books will swell. Show a handful of TVR die-hards who will give you kickstarter money regardless of even knowing the design and what sort of feedback are you expecting to get?
The subsequent cloak and dagger stuff is a throwback to the showmanship over substance of the type that the TVR community are so familiar with and not welcome IMHO.

I am rather disappointed that its only going to be another buck on show (there should be a prototype by now, especially given that they have in reality done no development work on the drive train as its all stock, even less now if i heard correctly that the Cosworth ecu wont be used?!?)I think it smacks of managing your kickstarter group which I guess is an acceptable point of view. but i totally understand the ethos here. Firstly 500 of us have placed our money where are mouths are to give them the encouragement to take it beyond a pipe dream, which should be recognised in some VIP sort of way.
But most importantly the design is going to be the make or break of this Phoenix, so a soft design launch in front of a limited number of invested viewers allows you to fine tune the design based on feedback prior to the whole world seeing a pile of poo, At which point it is very difficult to come back from a poor reception.

I also don't think the reveals to DHs is about getting their view with a plan to changing anything I think it is more about introducing their car directly to them and in person so as to ensure as few holders as possible drop out. I think it more about managing the relationship with your first customers regardless of how they describe the gathering.

I must admit that I'm not personally seeing any cloak and dagger stuff. It's even possible that before the deposit holders see the car they will have carried out the conventional focus group work.

I totally agree with you. The deposits are also not Kickstarter money, the little money would never have sufficed to fund even development work only, let alone start the actual operation. It is a measure of interest though. The deposits are also refundable for any reason. If you don´t like what you see, you can simply walk away and take your money with you, no questions asked. But this is great as it´s giving enthusiasts a very, very special event, gives valuable feedback nonetheless and is probably also need for marketing reasons later on. This looks all very sensible and fair to me and i am really looking forward to not only seeing the car, but to the whole event.I also don't think the reveals to DHs is about getting their view with a plan to changing anything I think it is more about introducing their car directly to them and in person so as to ensure as few holders as possible drop out. IMHO the preview to deposit holders, i.e. those that have shown an interest during development and put money upfront, is no different to a launch of any new product, certainly in the software arena.
This is not about getting feedback from a focus group, but a preview as a thank you (and to firm up the number of orders from TVR's perspective) to those that have believed in the new company and placed a deposit to buy before the public launch. I imagine that won't be far behind either.
I, for one, am thoroughly looking forward to it!

The real test will be the canapés. Will they be classy vol-au-vents or massive slabs of pork pie?
With Surrey being the UKs equivalent of LaLa land I fully expect Sushi served on the belly of some nubile wenches....Scotch eggs warmed on the manifolds of a Cosworth V8 should suffice.

p.s. pork pies with clear jelly and beer I'd have thought.

I didn't realise this was taking place in Surrey. I assumed it would have been in Wales?
As I understand it LE TVR looked at the factory/site in Wales as a possibility and the owners of the site launched a publicity stunt. On another thread, someone contacted the club direct and bought a few:

We're down to a month's wait, before the initial, double secret release, and despite the flow of detailed information, I am still excited. I hope the rest of you are, as well.
Best regards,
Bernard.
Same here, more than ever. I do look at the pics from battersea once in a while and each time i do i'm thinking "Looking really, really good". I hope the form presented there is close to the one of the final car. Although i cannot yet mentally connect that form to the front-picture from the tape-trailer.Best regards,
Bernard.
