To clarify, I completely get why someone would want to own an existing TVR and the world would be a much duller place without them. They have just never appealed to me personally.

This does highlight the absolute importance of their choice to bring in GM and Cosworth. I've always felt that those two iconic brands were essential to launching TVR to a new customer base.

Any mention of a convertible?
Yes, 2020ish - And not before according to Les.
That is a trick he is missing.

Isn't it quite normal to start with the coupe and roll out the convertible two years later? It's the way that generates the most sales.

Indeed, a process even followed by TVR of old.

I assume part of the reasoning is to launch the convertible around the time that a large enough number of buyers of the coupe are coming up to replace their car as well as to draw in those who have been waiting specifically?

TVRs of old were an easy model swap as the majority had unstressed bodies. Will the new car be the same or is the body a stressed component? Guess that plays a part??

It was a close run thing though in the olden days, with one of the model range never even producing a coupe (the S).

M series, soft top second.
Tasmin almost a draw.
T car soft top first.
Tuscan, soft top second.

I am aware of a couple of people who might be willing to sell their build slot (something I'm interested in buying).

Has anyone done this yet and is there an official process in place to facilitate? I can't be the only one out there kicking myself I didn't give the £2,500 deposit at the time.

I fully appreciate that the £2,500 paid is arguably now worth £5,000. What (if any) would be a reasonable premium to pay for the privilege?

scratchchin
Those who put down £2,500 have a credit of £2,500 off the purchase price once their new car arrives
Those who put down £5,000 have a credit of £5,000 off the purchase price once their new car arrives

With Les suggesting that some of the 500 Launch Editions are still up for grabs, why you'd want to pay a 'premium' of any kind just to get a car a little earlier is beyond me. Just give TVR a call and put your own deposit down. As people fizzle out (and there's no one interested in 'buying' their slots) you'll naturally get closer and closer to the front of the queue.

For information, I'm sure the form we signed when placing a deposit said they don't have a problem in slots chaining hands, so long as the original deposit is put down in "good faith" .. or something similarly worded.
Many thanks. I'd love to call TVR and put a deposit down IF it were for a launch Edition car. Sadly the website only has a tick box if you'd like to be "considered" for a LE car. There is no guarantee that paying your deposit will get you a LE car.

If anyone has a phone number for TVR, please could you drop me a PM?

Only for hairdressers tongue out

Besides, a convertible wouldnt cut it as a Le Mans car and the first coupes will be Le Mans cars for homologation reasons as well smile

I asked at the reveal what would happen if someone with a deposit wanted a non-LE version and the answer was that all 500 first cars will be LE-versions.

The Sagaris looks timeless fantastic.
But the Ferrari s side view is so boring (to me).
There all look equal. Like theNissan skyline too. And even the Corvette c7. I hope tvr will surprise us. And I still hope for a side view with that perfect rear proportions like the first teaser of Autocar. A mix of classic car design (e type) and modern. Like Whitney Houston said I will always love you.

It's not like the rear in the teaser. But it's cool.

My session was probably the other way round, assuming that most people who owned a TVR drove it there. I have never owned a TVR nor (sorry!) ever really desired one*.

I am happy to be an odd one out here but I was much more attracted to this endeavour by the involvement of GM and Cosworth than the fact that it's a TVR. I probably would have been interested if it had been called Edgar Motors if they deliver on the plan.

  • On our session a guy turned up in a Tuscan with its exhaust hanging off and there was some issue with a car that needed to be jump started.I am sure some would say that this is all part of TVR ownership and in a way I admire the bulldog spirit but that's not for me.
For your information the green Tuscan with the exhaust hanging off drove 500 miles from Edinburgh that morning and ripped the exhaust off 100 yards from broad water school in the leisure centre carpark which I thought was the school at first in my panic to avoid being late

I don't know, if what is conveyed is true I feel a little under whelmed. I'd have hope for something a bit more out there like this

That doesn't look like the case now, but feel comfortable I made the right decision not putting the deposit down, so I'll refrain until the cars demonstrated fully. All the talk of aero design is great for lemans but pretty meaningless at road speeds

Christ! I'd hope not. There was a reason no one bought a Panoz and that's because they were mingers.

I really do t think anyone would want to drive something like that anywhere and suffer the sniggers of the masses.

If TVR had proudly pulled the covers off and revealed something as "out there", (aka grotesque) as that Panoz, everyone would have ditched their deposits on the spot, and the vomit would still be being shoveled from the venue!

Perhaps not exactly like that but something fairly outlandish.. if you get my drift. The last set of TVR cars to a larger extent did that.

Although they are producing the esperante again apparently.

The trouble is that no one would buy such a car in enough numbers to ever be viable. It's taken years for the shock factor of the Sagaris to mellow. I very much suspect that the way to achieve volume sales is to offer something more grown up. People just don't want to stand out too much.
