In what respect ?

IMO Les was highlighting the bits that made those cars special and different to today's electro-trickery-fests but also what modern production techniques can do when coupled with a fundamental understanding of what a sports car should be.

I think I commented on this earlier in the thread, Les has serious previous (in a good way) with Aston, to me some Aston styling queue's in new TVR were kinda inevitable.... but that's not necessarily a bad thing... (in my humble and slightly biased opinion). smile

Was anyone else underwhelmed at the reveal. The recent pic on TG mag is the actual front end from memory and it is something about the headlights that just didn't look right for me. I am hoping it was because they were black and had no definition and that once real headlights are in place it will be ok?

Agreed. The top two thirds of the 'headlamp' looked OK, but I wasn't sure about the treatment of the bottom third. But assuming these will be LED units with an always-on daylight running light (as seems to be the way these days) then the shape of the light inside will make or break it.

Also as per the reveal and drawing, the car is being shown without a front number plate. Wherever that's expected to go will make a big difference too. I can accept on US cars it's a bit of an afterthought - just look at a Stingray in US of A spec with no front plate - stunning. Look at a UK model with the plate stuck on that boxy-mount thing out front and it spoils the whole look.

But on a UK car it really needs to show how it looks with a standard sized UK plate on there. If the idea is to mount it in and near the top of the 'grille' opening I think it could change that open-mouthed look into Bug Bunny.

I thought is was supposed to be the most amazing reveal know to man - or is the lack of jubilation on here an indication of otherwise?

I hadn't even considered the number plate. You are correct this is another major factor that could make or break the front end. I felt the front headlights needed to sweep bigger into the wings, they seemed to upright. It reminded me a little of a ginetta which is not a good look for me... The digital renders on the TVs made it look far better so I hope that is what the final car looks like..

Obviously everyone has their own taste. I wasn't blown away which is a worry. When I was in my 20s and bought a T350 I couldn't take my eyes from it. Now I am trying to work out if I have just grown older and generally less impressed with most things or whether the car simply didn't have the wow I was hoping for... The reveal car was a model therefore no definition. There was no glass so you couldn't see through the car so it lacked depth.

So the super dooper exclusive pic on top gear is the real front end and an image of the model.

This is it... confused

Trying not to get to hung up on the looks. I remember when the Griffith was released - I thought it was awful looking. A proper car had to have spoiler the size of a dining room table on the back. How could TVR release such a weedy looking feminine thing after the 450 SEAC. My Griffith 500 now holds the status of the only car I ever regretted selling. A gorgeous fabulous beautiful thing.

Its not the looks that have perturbed me, its a couple of comments.

GM moaning in Car Magazine about TVR's ergonomics really put me off, still annoys me to this day. Especially after owing a Cerbera. Everything is a Cerbera is a challange. Has anyone ever found the hazard warning light switch without having to refer to the manual? I mean how more ergonomincally wrong can you get than putting the switch for something you need to find urgently in the event of an emergency is such as ludicrous place - pure evil genius. Sitting in a Cerbera you just know your in something very very special, you would never mistake it for a Fiesta! I hate the whole conformist attitude to car design, switches, labels, stalks all the same.

and

LE's comment recently about 'we couldn't make a Sagaris, people have softened since 2005' A little to much like - we need to compromise to sell lots of them. Can't imagine Peter Wheeler ever using the word compromise! More 'sod everyone, this is what I want and if you don't like it than **** ***'

I was ambivalent at the reveal earlier in the year, too conservative for my liking.
I'm in on the Friday for the Goodwood Revival and will view the final desig there, albeit pre production but as near as dam it the final car. I'll make my final decision there whether I go for it or not.
If it's of the same ilk as the reveal then I'll be walking away and keeping the Cerbera.

First of all, i feel i can talk about the front end of the vehicle, without breaching the privacy agreement, due to me only mentioning features you see in the above picture relaesed by TVR themselves.

I attended the very first reveal slot at GMD (GM actually attended that first slot which was a nice treat) and as a huge lover of the aggressiveness of the Sagaris, I too felt underwhelmed by the looks unfortunately. I hate to sound negative because I was extremely excited since the day I put my deposit down. In my opinion it didn't have the wow factor of previous TVRs. I felt it lacked aggressive features. Even though it did have two bonnet vents, in my opinion (yet again i love the over the top bonnet vents of the sag) there wasnt enough of them and they were a bit boring looking to me which made the bonnet look a bit plain imo. Hopefully the final model changes this. Also, the headlights and front grill were unfinished in the reveal and I felt they didn't really look great so i was hoping they would have improved but from the above picture they don't look to have changed. I'm hoping for a big improvement on the finalised model.

I know everyone has different tastes and I'm sure many people with love the new car but, unfortunately I feel they have gone too conservative (for me anyway) with the design to appeal to a wider customer base. I thought that maybe it was just me who felt like this but it seems that other people felt the same too. Again, I apologise to be negative because I love TVR and I really want it to be a success. Hopefully the finalised car changes my mind. I really want to love the car so fingers crossed

GM having been there is very cool indeed, my son was hoping for that and even brought a toy McLaren F1 with him to have it signed.

I think a few points were misleading during the reveal: The black light drop-ins and black windows, the unnatural dimensions and material (too small) of the wheels/tyres, the fact that it was actually not standing on the ground and seemed "too high", the unfinished front/grill. But from what i saw, i too was wondering about the front and the retracted lights.

But: the picture from the TG article is clearly a pic of the model shown at the reveal, lighted for dramatic appearance. So by definition there is no change/progress to be seen compared to the reveal.

Unfortunately, my memory is failing me miserably and i can't remember a thing from the reveal, but I've been looking at all available pics from Battersea and TVR-published again and again. The car they showed under the cover and that was seen in the tape-sketch was actually it all the time, give and take a few details. It's ok if it takes a while to get used to it, nothing worse than a BMW Z4 that pleases the eye for 2 weeks and then becomes boring beyond belief.

I loved the aggressive, bat-mobile-like appearence of the thing under the cover which got me hooked and i remember being a bit puzzled by the front but in the end was walking out of the reveal thinking "i want this".
