imho, we all need to forget 'typical TVR fashion...

not least because legislation has changed, TVRs old methods were way to costlys.

in my view TVR has radically grown into what it always wanted to be/could be.. a potentially very serious manufacturer (they could take a lot of sales off Mclaren for example (cars all look the same to me) .

reading Pistonheads and elsewhere people seem to be reacting as if manufacturing/design process is as if nothing had changed..

when it has fundamentally changed.

I d agree as the bodywork is not structural, some panels could be changed..

but why should they, they gave there 500 deposits now. I've heard of a reserve list. as is it is good to go. Those at TVR have spent years doing this. the will not change anything much now (beyond productionising details, etc)
I agree to a point Barry but doubt this will be the final design. I want TVR to succeed and agree most cars look the same which is why its so critical they get this right otherwise they may not hit enough sales to stay a viable business. If i'm spending £90k on a car I want to look back when I've parked it up and smile (as the 90's Griffs do), and for me the front doesn't so it. If this is the final design I doubt I'll be moving forward and maybe other depositors feel the same? Les and the team have plenty of feedback around them to make an informed decision.

It's the final design. Maybe a few minor tweaks (front grill mesh/holes/bars, interior details), but it's what you see right there. I do not expect that to change. The latest official pictures are a huge improvement in trying to capture the nose.

Get down to the next viewing opportunity, you really need to see it in the flesh. Plenty of time to pull your deposit, the final price and specification hasn't been confirmed to buyers yet. They are notifying the upcoming preview dates and locations to deposit holders soon. The car is back at GMD for the moment, various testing needs to be completed for approval, so I'm sure when that is complete we will see the next list of details.

Sit back, relax, stop thinking about it every five seconds. It's coming. ;-)

well don't buy this one. (but wait a bit, you might be able to sell on those deposits for a profit) as they have a reserve list now... they have been looking at it for years and have signed off on it.. I personally love the front styling..

I do however think it will look (personally) even better in other colours.

I do think, they have generated enough interest in non-old school TVR owners (that includes me, owned a TVR since 1992) now to more than sell the first 500. Also - Keep hold of that deposit! - even if you don't want it) - look what happened to 911R prices!!

When the likes of Evo/Autocar get to drive it. I think it will make all it's competitors look bloated and slow. The 0 -100-0 time on this car could be close to a Mclaren F1.. ie - ok lower BHP/tonne. but modern brakes, has TC, and ABS AND also designed by Gordon Murray..

Shmee is definitely non old TVR audience.

[Shmee/Tim] is wealthy rich and part of modern supercar audience, (1 million youtube subscriptions, massive in supercar owner social media) and is hugely positive about the new Griffith and has a deposit. I think I saw him and his car at the reveal I went to.

Outside of TVR and Pistonheads circles. I'm seeing a really really positive buzz about the new TVR

"Now, Burton is living what many car-lovers would consider the dream. He travels the world and drives supercars for a living.
He took 20 flights in February and currently has plans to be at his home in London for just two nights in the whole of April. " Independant

this is massive positive publicity. I'd suggest to anyone with a deposit, keep hold of it until you have to commit

(Note. I put my deposit down over 2 years ago. I had two people at Goodwood, who signed up later, offer to swap places in the queue with me, as I need to get my finances in place. the guy had flown in from the USA especially for the Goodwood launch).

FFG. you have 2 deposits...? if this went 911R crazy (ie rich car nuts must have one) , they could be worth a bit!!! don't just give them back!

Tim/Shmee is living the Pistonheaders dream!!

Burton is filming nearly every day, and his life is now a whirlwind of travelling, press launches and road-trips. Recently, for example, he found himself behind the wheel of a Sheikh’s Bugatti (with a number plate that cost more than the car), driving to the world’s only seven-star hotel for breakfast.

“It was quite surreal,” he says.

But it’s clear that it’s still the actual cars that Burton is most passionate about, rather than the glamour that comes with his lifestyle: “As a car lover, I can’t believe the number of different, amazing cars that I’d once only dreamt of seeing but have now been lucky enough to drive.”

What makes me laugh is all these internet experts suggesting "improvements" to the front end which actually make it look minging.. It's a good looking thing, can't wait to see one on the road.

yes, mesh, number plates, slight cosmetics may make it look different, better in some eyes. But I'm v happy.. rear end is awesome

don't give the deposit away. Give it a few months and you might be turning down offers for your deposit/place in the queue (if you still don't like it)

Barry,
I'm hanging on for a while to see what happens. I've seen all the Shmee stuff and its the best coverage i've seen, even if he can be slightly grating (no offence Shmee).
For me the red car didn't show it off well but other mock ups I've seen make it look a lot better. Having owned TVRs since 1990 and still owning 5 (including the Taimar I first bought), plus organising the Growl since 2003 I wouldn't say I was negative on TVR and wish Les every success.

Moycie - yes, I wait details of the viewings so maybe catch up with you at one or two.

please don't think I'm suggesting you are negative in anyway. You've done loads to support TVR.. I did mention on the stand I thought Red/Cream was a bad choice of colour, the flood lights (some red) did not help.. and Ferrari is red/cream.. and I think Ferraris look rubbish in red!

Someone like that it's almost as if you'd pay them out of your marketing budget to drive around in the car for a few months and produce a certain number of videos.

I can assure you that no car I own, have owned, or have announced I've ordered has any manufacturer funding or financial involvement.

TVR actually took some persuasion to go ahead and film some videos!

I appreciate the exhaust positioning is compromised by the flat floor. I just think the back end looks wrong without big exhausts at the rear, looks like something is missing.
Personally I think the back end looks fantastic.. and is a result of serious engineering to deliver a stable car at very high speeds.
it is like that for a purpose, not for 'styling'
I think this is where they have made a mistake in my opinion, putting performance above styling, it should have been the other way around. Yes, if you're designing a race car then the performance is paramount, but not on a road going production car. TVR have always been style led, fantastic looking cars, unusual, something different, with a big V8 and some good handling thrown in. I bought my first TVR because of it's looks, rather than it's performance, that to me was a bonus. I just feel the rush for 200mph+ performance has compromised the styling of the new car.

I do like the new car and I'm sure it will look great in the flesh, but so far I'm still a bit underwhelmed.

Didn't suggest you were Barry and you know me but many on here don't. Yes I have 2 deposits to match the existing his and hers Griffs, probably different colours though . I need to crack on with our bigger garage next year as been meaning to do it for a while now and need to get some benefit from it. This is a good catalyst to move the project forward.

I did get the impression from speaking with TVR people on the stand that they were a bit overwhelmed with the amount of interest. I also got the impression that not that aware of social media... And the massive free. Enthusiast word of mouth/video potential. All car journalists I've read seen very very keen

There is a brilliant video of I-stream chassis turning into a Griffith. On a Murray website, but that video was nowhere to be seen on TVRs website. I do think the amount of press interest caught them by surprise.. maybe because lots of car journos would like to see a much lighter car, less electronic aids, etc.. the 911R was a surprise hit

That's good to learn. And my sincere apologies from getting the wrong end of the stick. Since the 212trading deal I've been approached by a couple of vloggers to rent them cars and had made the assumption that this is how they operate.

I haven't quite followed, do you mean they want a discounted rental on a car long term without actually declaring where the car comes from? It would be a difficult gig to play off a rented car as your own given it would have been seen elsewhere etc.

All of the cars in my garage are 100% my own (LT, GT8, Focus RS were new and I paid list price for all. FF, Vanquish and Mini were used and all three I paid the advertised price albeit with some tax included on some - normal negotiations. Both GT R and GT3 inbound I'm paying for again).

As much as I'd love a world of free cars, or heavily discounted cars, I think it would jeopardise neutrality and it would likely come with stipulations not to drive certain competitors etc.

The new Griffith.. I'm pretty sure I heard mention the list of 500 is closed now (and that some directors, etc have given up their slots)
Iheard quite a few people talking deposits on the stand, and that there may be a reserve list.. I put my down early, and I can't quite belive it was over 2 years ago now

That's a shame and a little surprising. As a small company with a (presumably) rather small marketing budget, I would have thought they'd take more advantage of new media channels.

Hopefully they'll wise-up in the period before the production cars start to appear.

Oh no they are great now and Les has been awesome, I really appreciate that. When I first contacted them 2 years ago I think it made a lot less sense, but also YouTube was less understood back then.

They wanted me to procure a new car which they would then drive around for a few months making out it was theirs in exchange for promoting my brokerage. I would be expected to cover their expenses as well. I called around a few brokerages to ask their opinion and they said it was normal and that's how the deals worked.
