Exactly. When a few new Griffs are rumbling around and looking great in the flesh, there are cars in this price range that are going to look a little pedestrian. A chap might start to look rather dreary with his defaultmobile.

This is what happened with TVRs of old.

I have never owned a TVR before (always wanted one since the days of the Griffith [90s version]) and have a deposit down. My car buying history is mainly Porsche with some McLaren and BMW thrown in.

The amount of whinging on here by so-called fans of the brand is beyond belief. It looks much better in the flesh than in the pictures. It will have 400bhp/ton and a bent V8. Manual box. LSD. Gordon Murray. Hopefully decent reliability. WTF else do you need to know?!

As for the price, name me something under £100k that has 400bhp/ton in unmodified spec and a manual box. This car is playing to a segment of enthusiasts that have been all but abandoned by the modern car industry.
Not sure its whinging as more of a reality check that the worlds changed a little since 2006. I think from what I am reading the TVR world seems to be split by 2 types of buyer. Those who buy them primarily for the looks and those who buy them primarily for the power. (me being the former obviously)

Now don't get me wrong, I love the power and noise from my Sag but I am under no illusions that down a B road a well driven Fiesta ST will probably murder me eventually - as its so easy to drive quickly and the Sag takes both physical and mental effort. However I love the classic lines of my Griff 500, the sheer grace & beauty of my Cerbera and the utter madness of my Sag. As long as it makes a lot of noise and leaves the traffic lights in a plumb of tyre smoke that's me satisfied power and handling wise, so all the 400bhp/tonne, carbon this and that, flat bottom stuff doesn't do that much for me and like others I am a little disappointed with the looks (although the rear 3 qtr looks terrific!!!!)

However others are obviously primarily interested in the power and handling and the fact its probably going to blow everything else sub 100k into the weeds let alone Chavboy in his Fiesta ST who is going to wonder what the hell just disappeared over the horizon. I don't doubt for one moment they are going to be very very happy with their new toy. Parked in a petrol station will it attract as much attention as a Sagaris, don't think so. But to be fair to Les it was never intended to, he already has said that to widen the market appeal they need to make something less outlandish.

Just healthy discussion really, I am sure lots of people will disagree with me and that's perfectly fine. I am not trying to convert people to my point of view just merely stating it smile

Seriously though if you want some thing British, fast as f*** and looks good whats wrong with an Evora 430GT - OK OK I know will get my getmecoatsmile

If you take a nosey on the Lotus website it majors on..
“Performance..Advanced lightweight materials..Aerodynamics”...and the word “downforce”.
Weight is the same.
Performance is ballistic.

However.....
Autotrader have only one on their site ..and it is another £36,000...without too many options. Although it has got “a cup holder..”......!

£90,000...a “loss leader”....????

Agreed. Besides the fact that it's a whopping 35% more expensive (in EUR) it does not really appeal to me. A car must still be impressive when doing 10 mph. So big displacement V8 is must have, front-engine must have, big bonus for naturally aspirated, all in all not sporty, but raw. Alternatives would be more Vette than Lotus (and a mid-engined Vette would not qualify).

I’m a whinging “so called fan of the brand” I’ve owned TVRs and this to me doesn’t look like a TVR and looks boring. I liked TVRs because they were the opposite of Porsche. I remember people on here even complaining when the Porsche forum was opened. I don’t like this car because it’s too conservative and has become an consumer product, like a Porsche. It’s no longer got any of the wow and uniqueness that TVRs had.

You’re never had a TVR and are buying this one. I expect this is good news for new TVR, as they’re obviously attracting new customers. Which is exactly what they need to do to succeed.

You can’t be surprised though that what attracts new customers to this car, puts off some others?

Ouch 125k! Hadn't realised they had crept up that much. I thinking the 410 RRP is 90k

No i haven't seen the new Griff in the flesh so hoping as everyone seems to suggest that it looks better than in the photos. I was only joking about the Evora, lovely drivers car but lacks the 'brutishness' of a TVR

Why’s he trolling? He’s expressed an opinion, he’s not made up some random bull st.

People are getting way too sensitive about this thing. Some of us, who are TVR fans, are disappointed with the appearance, in particular the bland front end. There... I’ve said it. It’s just an opinion.

I waited to see said car before committing a deposit, and as soon as I saw it knew I couldn’t live with the front.

This is a “discussion forum”. If you don’t want any negatives we need to start a new thread called “new tvr under wraps - Happy thoughts only”.

Some people on here are so sensitive I’m suprised they survive everyday life without breaking down frequently.

I think it’s fair to ask who has actually seen the car in the flesh...before they ‘whinge’...

You simply cannot take it all in without walking around at (the very) least 5 times.

Go take a look at the pictures of the cars on McLaren’s website ..they bear absolutely no ‘justice’ to their real~world presence. They appear ‘flat’ and seemingly ‘odd’...yet when you see them ‘for real’..they’re DDG..!!..
