Why’s he trolling? He’s expressed an opinion, he’s not made up some random bull st.

People are getting way too sensitive about this thing. Some of us, who are TVR fans, are disappointed with the appearance, in particular the bland front end. There... I’ve said it. It’s just an opinion.

I waited to see said car before committing a deposit, and as soon as I saw it knew I couldn’t live with the front.

This is a “discussion forum”. If you don’t want any negatives we need to start a new thread called “new tvr under wraps - Happy thoughts only”.

Some people on here are so sensitive I’m suprised they survive everyday life without breaking down frequently.

Trolling is not an appropriate term, I agree. But both you and El Stovey have been negative on every single aspect of the project from the outset, especially Stovey who clearly isn’t going to like anything new at all that ever dares to exist with a TVR badge. Equally, there are people who are insanely positive and don’t wish to hear any criticism. But you and Stovey are very much giving the impression that your dislike of the product, the factory, the people, pretty much everything is being driven by something else. wink

Not really DA.. I waited.. watched, and was going to sort a deposit out with woody, but as soon as I saw the pics I knew it wasn’t right for me.

I was cautiously excited as the next man, and as I get from your “fishy” posts you’re probably feeling similar to they way I do with regard to the appearance.

My other posts I wouldn’t say are wholely negative they’re just realistic. It’s a tough sector with huge options for someone to spend that kind of money on. New or old..

Don’t think I’ve ever commented on the factory. Couldn’t give a squirt of piss where they build it. Could be built in Les’s greenhouse or potting shed for all I care, it just had to look right.

How cryptic, and personal, what’s driving my dislike of the product? Aren’t we allowed to simply not like it? I’ve happily bought TVRs in the past that have had criticism on here. I couldn’t care less if other people didn’t like them. Each to their own.

I wanted to love this car. I’m simply disappointed by it and the direction this new era of TVR have gone. I‘ve always said I like the rear and the sides just not the front, which I think is odd looking, reading through this thread again, there are many other people that share my opinions. Overall it seems bland, which was never a criticism you’d hear about a Wheeler era car.

As I said above, it seems to be attracting new customers who previously bought Porsches etc so seems like it’s going to be a success for them. Before when they made cars that actually appealed to (trolls) like me, they went bust, so perhaps this is the only way to succeed?

I wish them good luck

I think it’s fair to ask who has actually seen the car in the flesh...before they ‘whinge’...

You simply cannot take it all in without walking around at (the very) least 5 times.

Go take a look at the pictures of the cars on McLaren’s website ..they bear absolutely no ‘justice’ to their real~world presence. They appear ‘flat’ and seemingly ‘odd’...yet when you see them ‘for real’..they’re DDG..!!..
You do make a very fair point - when the Wheeler Griff came out I remember being so disappointed in how it looked - I mean where was the massive tea tray spoiler!!, whats with all the feminine curves!, it was certainly no big bad wedge. However when I saw it in the flesh for the first time I was smitten. So much so I vowed one day to own one, and I loved my ownership from 2006-2009, fabulous car, I have a picture of it on the wall just above my monitor in my office right now as I type, still looks gorgeous!

Just re-ran the Shmee YouTube video of his walk round the new Griff and it looks fabulous from the rear and side, interior looks superb and then you see the front and my heart drops! - so yes maybe I do need to see it in the flesh, also with a number plate would be good.

You’re right, it hasn’t quite grabbed me visually. What’s underneath is really, really appealing and it’s going to be an unbelievable car at its price point which still seems cheap to me.

I think another little area that I’ve been surprised by is how an extremely successful set of individuals from the fast moving South East, involved in the higher end retail consumer market with a history in tech have been very 80s in their approach to managing flow. While Musknis at the other end of the spectrum there is no denying that he more than understands the modern market place and how to not just retain interest but to build it.

I’m a little surprised that the TVR mob didn’t build an app with two tier content and hire a chap to stream out little snippets.

Yep agree, I was going to say they’ve missed a huge opportunity in generating interest with an app or similar. They could have hired a grad and created “planet tvr” and had dropped regular content updates, from testing to mundane stuff such as how they choose a hide fit for a Tvr blah blah blah.

I’m a whinging “so called fan of the brand” I’ve owned TVRs and this to me doesn’t look like a TVR and looks boring. I liked TVRs because they were the opposite of Porsche. I remember people on here even complaining when the Porsche forum was opened. I don’t like this car because it’s too conservative and has become an consumer product, like a Porsche. It’s no longer got any of the wow and uniqueness that TVRs had.

You’re never had a TVR and are buying this one. I expect this is good news for new TVR, as they’re obviously attracting new customers. Which is exactly what they need to do to succeed.

You can’t be surprised though that what attracts new customers to this car, puts off some others?
We'll have to disagree about the looks. It does not look as extreme as a Sagaris, but the Griffith and Chimaera, upon which the modern TVR was built, were hardly extreme looking cars, more classical sports car aesthetic with nice detailing.

And I'm not a TVR rejector - I've long wanted a T350 and will get one when a space in the garage opens up. I appreciate different marques for what they are... be they a flyweight Elise (just sold a Sport 160 on ITBs), the solidity and 'rightness' of a 993RS, the grunt of a big V8 or the precision of an E46 M3. All have their place, the only marque I could struggle to see myself being seen in is a Lamborghini, but that's my problem.

Having seen and heard this car in the flesh, I thought it had sufficient wow to make me part with £5k of my hard-earned. Perhaps you could come for a passenger ride in mine when it arrives and it will change your mind?

They are still at least a year away from building one. It's hard to keep a steady level of excitement with even the interested public over too long a time. Once they have a (truly) production ready car, admission, etc. and production is only 6 months away, then it's time to start the media-rollout. True interest will be measurable when it can be seen on TopGear/Grand Tour, have multi-page reviews in the big magazines, lap-times for Nordschleife etc. That's the time to add fuel to the fire.

Bet the guys never envisioned it taking so long. When did this start ? 2013 ? 5 years already. Didn't Les say during the intro in Goodwood as reply to the warning it would not going to be easy: "Well, how hard could it be ?". Very, obviously.

I still reckon they should have supercharged it and made any comparisons with price-equivalent rivals irrelevant, would only add £10k to the production cost(?)

I’m hoping that all this painstaking work will allow a platform that can be easily re- jigged to produce S versions and Chim and Cerb-like spin-offs just like TVR used to do.

I honestly think that the new Griffith is underpriced. £90k seems excellent value.
I suspect it really needs to be £145k.
I further suspect that once people realise what they’ve got they will feel very privileged indeed.
