Agree. But I am sure Andy Palmer of Aston is busier than Lee with all the new models, the new factory & the motorsport. However he still replied to my email on a Sunday morning then had 4 more people follow up with responses on sub-topics then re-confirmed at the end. How bought-in am I now? Extremely.

With TVR I have the opposite; called and put a deposit over the phone over a year ago, have had a few emails and that is it. It is not like there are 100,000 LE deposit holders so to make it more personal considering we have locked up £5k for 2-3 years (and suffered big delivery delays already) should not be too difficult. TVR I fear trade off the “Cool, different from the mainstream, cottage industry, boutique” so it just doesn’t matter if we are a bit crappy on communications factor. At £90k for a car you have to do a little more.

I keep the free option on the TVR but won’t commit until I have driven it so can compare with the Vantage; it would need to be proper bat-st crazy for me to buy it as a partner for the Aston, otherwise I would honestly spend a little less on an old Sag.
Yep, there is a bit room for improvement. As far as being able to drive one before the final commit, i am not sure that's going to happen and i could imagine a few people will jump off board still. There was talk about special depositors events and i could well imagine there will be a pro driver giving it a spin. I just don't see how all depositeers would be able to drive before signing.

On the other hand, the whole project is a gargantuan task and i am sure the guys would very much prefer the thing to be already out in the wild. I mean if delivery is mid-2019, or worse mid-2020, as recent (unconfirmed) statements suggest, it will have taken close to 7 years from plan to reality. If you knew that in advance, you'd never start going for it. "Blood, sweat and tears, it's been there in spades", is what he said in the video, and i don't think that's a lie.

Don’t misunderstand, I am not without sympathy and it is delivering projects costing 00’s of Millions which has paid for all my cars ;-). So I know how hard they are and have the lack of hair and stomach issues which come with multi-year stress, no sleep and 4 flights a week for over 6 years now.... The toys at home help to compensate (even when they are sat at Heathrow airport).

I think a test drive would be an essential for me though, I am not one of the first depositors so hopefully they find a way to fit it in. And hopefully they sort the front-end!

I see your point, it's a fair one. Just don't see how it would be possible to actually manage a test-drive for, say even 50% of deposit holders. They'd have to handle insurance, introduction, possibility of people wrecking cars, cars breaking down etc. This would literally take weeks to pull off and be a nightmare to organize. What i do expect though, and i think is somewhat announced, is extensive professional video-material of laps, braking, turns, cornering, drifting, high-speed, on-board, etc.

They simply will have to make people commit at one time to be able to plan for ordering and production-scheduling, build-numbers etc. This will be when the rubber hits the road as that's the time the free option i often mentioned will turn into a 90k hard commitment. There will be some more sweat when that time comes, for potential buyers as well as for TVR smile

ps.: would not bet on the front being changed in significant ways

I think a very sensible combo (dislike the dayglo~green finish options..way too ‘in yer face’..). Post some photos on here please..looking forward to seeing it !!
I take no credit, my wife is the taste police “Astons must be classy”

She is also responsible for the de-badging of the RS Audi’s. Nothing cooler than an RS6 with a tow bar and no badges in dirty Daytona grey....
RS6 towing a nice twin-axle caravan....bow

There's some mileage in that..the bottom / underneath edges of the head-lights need to encased within the body..and smoothed out.
Would look uber-cool if they could mimic the rear-LED's ...

Touché

But I suggest you go drive one; you won’t stop laughing, best fun you can have on the road since the fun happens at 40mph not the 90 of my Audi’s or Aston!

Perhaps you can explain the fun involved in towing a hotel room behind you when there are many available in actual buildings around the country you can use ;-) looking in the mirror and seeing the 100 cars whose journey you are ruining may help with the amusement factor I guess!

All in jest of course and better get back on topic. Internet is a dangerous place to poke fun; I will go back offline for another 3 months now.

My first Aston had three wheels.

Well it actually started with four but the detailing guy hadn’t done up the wheel nuts right and after 10 minutes of “spirited” driving one wasn’t so well attached.... stopped just in time

Nothing wrong with an Imp!

Has there been any update from TVR to the inner sanctum of Deposit Holders? I'm thinking site/factory pics, some idea of update to delivery schedules etc?

Be good to have some positive news of developments rather than speculating on here and having to make do with disseminating whether it looks best if the tyre valve caps are anodised or plain.

As an LE deposit holder I am afraid the answer is no. Here is what I have received since paying the deposit:

6/3/18 Manufacturing update
14/2/18 TVR to be shown in best of British
19/12/17 Factory news
18/12/17 Pre Christmas Update
18/9/17 Post Launch update
4/9/17 Goodwood update
24/8/17 Update

Some of this is a marketing blah blah; come see us at this show. Some is "we are working on the factory". All is appreciated.

But maybe I expect too much; as many have said they are a small firm and maybe have 0.1 people writing marketing material. Would just be nice to feel more part of it given the support the initial deposit holders provided to get them going.

The last update on 6/3/18 was probably their best one with lots of good info and ended like this:

"Well that about wraps it up for the moment, but in closing I can tell you that we have some blockbusting news just around the corner – we can’t share it just yet, but there will be more to come on the subject in a few short weeks’ time – we hope you’ll be as excited as we are!"

Maybe I missed something but I am still excited to find out what (we are now >2 months later) ;-)

Yeah, this was about the cooperation with RebellionRacing in Le Mans. But Les said in various interviews that this is just the start and they aim to take part in the GT class with the new Griff around 2020. Would not make much sense to do this now as they have other things to focus on and would anyway not be allowed by regulation as you need to have a certain number of cars produced and sold to take part in GT.

edit: @madaboutastons: just curious, will you be able to test-drive the vantage before finally comitting ?
