Like some others on this thread I don't have enough years and money left to buy a new Griffith. However in my early career I worked as an economist, and later in marketing, so I respectfully offer a few thoughts:

Re the new Griff, I'm still worried by the supply/demand/breakeven figures that have been quoted on here. Assuming for a moment that the factory is up and running ere long, and that a skilled workforce materialises from somewhere, you've gotta ask yourself one question: are there really enough buyers out there?

Do we have visions of hundreds of the new cars all whizzing around (and some being stuffed in hedges, due to driver error -- and that would probably include me unless I got some serious tuition before being let loose on the roads). Or will the majority get put in the garage and brought out when the sun shines?

If you have an idle moment, read the DeLorian story on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeLorean_DMC-12 I am tempted to quote Neil Diamond, "....except for the names and a few other changes, the story is the same one".

And before you ask, yes I have bought new TVR's before, albeit a long time ago (a Taimar and later an S3C, both as daily drives), They were great cars, drove well in all weathers, didn't fall in a heap by the side of the road, were affordable, and dealer service was good. Has anyone figured where they are going to get their new Griff serviced?

QED.

Got a reply pretty quickly, think I will point them in the direction of this thread!

Good morning Mr Leighton,

We’re sorry to hear that you are thinking of cancelling your deposit placement but the process is quite straight forward. If you could please confirm the requirement to enquiries@tvr.co.uk informing us of your account details, we will then initiate a return of your deposit in full (£2500) either to the card used for placement or by direct transfer to your account.

Feedback is also important to us, so if you would like to provide any in relation to your deposit and or the reason you are considering cancelling then we would welcome receiving the details. If however you would prefer not to elaborate then that is also fine, we respect your decision regardless.

An update on project progress is anticipated shortly but in the meantime we await your further instruction.

Kind regards

Bullitt, are you having second thoughts?

You, Spag and BJWoods would be good barometers.

I do not doubt the car will find buyers, but I am worried.
No second thoughts, standing firm.

Absolutely love the idea of a light-weight, brute, old-school, big V8, working-class, adult-car. On paper, it's got all that plus a legendary designer and some guys with big balls and the respective mindset who are going balls to the wall to pull this off. So the TVR is the car i want and i see nothing that could to take its place.
Was shopping at the time for a C7 Z06 or a Lotus Exige, but both felt like a compromise, and even now, while i write this, i couldn't decide which one to take.

Nonetheless, it's not all smooth sailing:

It's really taking very, very long. We've all seen this thread silent for a weeks. Put my deposit down in 2016, we are now two years later with little to show for. When i put down the deposit, i figured that by todays time the factory would already be busy cranking out cars.

That in itself is ok, the complexity of the whole project cannot be overestimated. But communication from TVR is sub-par:

Maybe we are all wrong and are expecting too much, but then again, if your most enthusiastic potential customers don't feel well, it's the customer that ususally is right.

I think it's urgent to be more open about a realistic! time plan, an indication of where i am in the queue, updates on factory progress. I know this possibly collides with investors, sponsors, politics, whatever but give us something and post a pic once in a while.

Also, i'd like to see professional! track material (video, audio!), drifts, burnouts, full speed, drivers interview, etc. At some time, sooner rather than later, i even would like to have final specs: horsepower, weight, weight-distribution, top-speed, acceleration-times, LE-color, wheel-sizes, etc.

They should give us some indication on future models. Will there be a convertible ? Will there be turbo/supercharged performance version ? When will it be out ?

I have no idea why they are so silent about this, but frequency, form and content of updates is not enough. Am not expecting company secrets, but any hint as to when we will get it, would be greatly appreciated. I see the point that there must be a balance, as all info will evtl. be spread and private info will not remain private. But they could prepare info-packages for depositors and make them public a week later or so.

Le Mans is great and everything and i understand their aspiration, but i would like them to spend more time on getting the car done. No car, no Le Mans. Sounds more like a distraction at the moment.

They should get that damn questionaire out and don't worry about making it "quicker to answer" as someone in a recent post was told. People will tell them loads of stuff they want and don't want hear, anyway.

Some of the criticism here i can not share, though:

- There's no sense in comparing this venture to anything pre-2010, probably even pre-2015. Regulation, environmental- and security-issues have grown exponentially since then. Even in 2000 the rule was more or less "when it runs, you can sell it". That is simply not possible anymore. If they get this thing to market, you will a get a 2018-type approved car, sellable in all the EU, meeting latest standards. Read that again. And then again.

The funny thing is, that if they had decided to remake the Sagaris, it would most likely have taken them exactly the same time as with the new car.

All the great cars of old cannot be remade. It's the past. Period. You can buy an old one only because it has at one time been legally admitted. Even the GT40 Recreations that were mentionend (Testarossa ?) are built on old frames because that is the only way to get them on the street legally (if am not fully mistaken).

- Aftermarket/dealership concerns because of the size of TVR. They were very upfront on this. I wouldn't bet on Lister, Nomad, Atom, Donkervoort, Morgan etc. being around forever, either.

- The delays are not their fault. I'm sure it's a scary, daunting project with a a lot of investors and private money on the table and i am sure they would prefer to have it already driving around.

I almost committed to purchasing one, I like the car, I don't love it. I doubt young boys will have posters of it on their walls. The appeal to me is the engine and transmission and Gordon Murray's input rather than the overall design. I feared that the car would never see the light of day and at the reveal I thought it would, I now am not so sure, certainly the time frame for delivery looks like getting longer and longer, maybe 2020 now before those apart from the very first depositors will see a car delivered.
The lack of communication from TVR is a worry, I would love to see the new car on the road and depositors raving about it, I really would, but It looks like my Cerbera will be my TVR for a while. I will continue to enjoy it while I wait on the new TVR hitting the road then see what the feedback is like. If it is good there is every chance I will buy one If not I will spend good money on my Cerbera and continue to cherish it. I really do hope things start to progress rapidly over the next few months and many of the frustrations depositors have experienced will be removed and replaced with buying decisions rather than doubt.

Would the gent who works at Cosworth perhaps give us any feedback..post Le~Mans..as I understand Cosworth had a lot to do with the engine management system on the Rebellion car..

Really liked his post..unfortunately have forgotten his name (will have to flick back through the thread..)..

Would be good to hear their impressions (although not expecting full disclosure..)...and if that technology is worming its way into the new Griffith..

I’m nicely patient..in no rush to take delivery before Spring 2020. I don’t want a Sagaris (never have)..dont want an Atom nor a Corvette. New Aston Vantage reviews aren’t great..and a 570S is nearly twice the price. Fezza California running costs scare me although I think they look really nice.

Interesting to see / hear what the reaction is at Silverstone this weekend.

Too many peopes on here venting...
Long way still to go and plenty of work still to be done.
Relax and enjoy the Summer..

I've been patient. Because next phase depends on the factory, set up, production tooling, then a crash test car can be built, and things should start accelerating from then on.. GMD have not only designed car, but also the factory assembly line/process. They get the factory in August. So in the last three months of this year, I expect more to happen, more Comms. They should probably have waited and not shown the car too early.

But marketing wise I understand launching the new car, and relaunching the brand, in TVR's 70th year, in 2017, impossible to resist (also Ferrari's 70th year..

If not much changed in 2 months time, I would be concerned, but I'm expecting things to start happening from September.

That said, surprised by Festival of Speed. Would have thought opportune. But maybe car was doing something else/testing? Though 6/10 ths up the hill would be disappointing. 10/10 risks the protype and appearance at other events. Like Silverstone Classic

Waiting an update, which has been promised v soon

I’m sure TVR read this thread, and I hope they see that even a stock email response about a deposit return and with one line about there being news soon could be enough to keep a deposit holder on board.

It’s astonishing though that this hasn’t occurred to them already and that they are carrying on out of the pages of ‘Noddy Does Marketing’ at huge risk to the hard won sales already achieved.

It seems they are now on the cusp of disaster simply for the sake of a some minimal PR and a key fob.

Yes. But there is no point, going to expense of hand buildings another prototype.. crash testing has to be done with a car built by production tooling. Factory site gets handed to TVR
In August. Then next phase can begin

Problem with the FoS is that it runs during the small window that you have to go on family holiday before the Stae schools break. wink
