Pretty sure you said PW listened to criticisms of his cars’ styling, guess the Tamora was the exception, or did he genuinely like it?
On my third Tamora, Whats not to likebiggrin

I've just seen this. BMW, getting a lot of flak for the new Z4, too:

And judging from looking at the new Supra (and they have resources and experience!!! ) it's not exactly a stunner as well:

At least it does not look like a Toyota GT86 or Subaru BRZ!
It looks like a mess!

Thankfully, it was before my time as Chief Designer and I was assigned exclusively to the Tuscan R / T440. I did do the door cards, column shroud and was involved with the dials though. I was horrified that it was about to go out looking like that and made sure I was nowhere near it. It is worse than the new car, and that is some achievement!

It was a rush job in desperate times. I never told him what I really thought of it until afterwards and I suppose being the entry level car, orders were placed. I was asked to do some renderings of it for Autocar the week before it's release and when he saw them, he said they couldn't go out because they were better than the actual car. That was my subtle hint, but finances and time dictated that it had to go.
Interesting, so even in 01/02, TVR staff considered it to be desperate times, I presume engine issues were just coming to the fore, sounds like the company did well to keep going another 4 years

Hi Bob. Where did you acquire the headlights for the Tamora? Were they 'off the shelf' or a custom job?

They were offered (for a very short time) by Silverstone Performance back in 2005/06. I think they were a £1000 upgrade, if memory serves.

All done by Brendan at Concept Performance in Sheffield, he did the light mods whilst it was having a re-spray, he also added a front splitter, plus he manufactured and installed a carbon fibre airbox and associated feed modifications.

Apologies to the OP for this going off thread, I can give more details if you PM me

I'll join your sacrilege then Bullitt...was never a huge fan of the Sagaris (although I "get" the appeal)...much prefer the Griffith that I have..smooth lines..great proportions..and much less of an "Essex-Boy" image...

Would I be right in saying that most of the "more vocal" criticisms come from Sag owners...(no problem with that...maybe they're a different breed)...drivingdrivingdriving
LOL!!

So when I lived in Essex I owned a Griffith 500 (and a Chimaera before that)

Now I live is Suffolk I own a Sagaris (and a Cerbera before that)

Make of that what you will smilesmile
When I lived in south Essex I owned a Tuscan. Now I live in north Essex (just a couple of miles from Suffolk border) and I still own a Tuscan. LOL

I've always liked the Tamora to be honest. Not as much as the T350, mind, but I'd take either if offered. And the fact that a Sagaris today is roughly the price of both cars together....

I think I generally prefer that 'trio' of later cars to the Tuscan variants. Visually at least. Can't claim to have driven any of them yet unfortunately.

Tamoras were great to drive. I had one of the first. Unlike any other car I’ve ever owned I never got one negative comment from anyone. The back was definitely a bit odd though but I loved the front.

One day I took it out to see how fast it would go and the big middle hard section of the roof came off. I looked around in a field for ages but never found it.

I didn't like the Tamora when it was released, but it has grown on me over the years, and from a design perspective is certainly striking and unique.

I still find it incredible that TVR made so many different models in a variety of colours that satisfied so many different people's tastes.

Pitch up to a TVR gathering, such as Burghley for example, and you'd struggle to find a doppelganger

I agree on the Tam, especially the later facelifted ones. I'd consider one now if I didn't have my 350.

I think a TVR means different things to different people. For me, it's always been about open top motoring on B-road twisties, so good handling and sound is required in the mix, too. The Tamora is perfect for this, being an Elise on steroids (at least, that's how I have always seen her). I love the T-350 and Sagaris, but they have fixed roofs, so are the new TVR's.

In all honesty, if I had the money to buy a new TVR outright, I wouldn't, I'd fettle my Tamora further, as it is all the car I have ever wished for. Not the prettiest, but when hooning on a sunny day with the roof off, with the smell of fibreglass, S6 and a hint of country air, smiling inanely, I don't really care... hehe

This angle and ‘colour’ are much better.
The front needs to be slightly lower imo (Top Gear also made the same comment)..which I’m pretty sure will be addressed once the final design has been ‘signed off’. 25mm would do it.
The headlights also need to be encased all way around by the bonnet bodywork..and replace the day-time running ‘bar’ with tiny ‘LEDs’.
Smoke the headlight case..just very slightly.
I also agree with a prior comment that the air intakes / slats underneath each headlight would look much better painted in body-colour.
And finally a decent (horizontal slats..with honeycomb behind) grill with Griffith emblem sat just above the no-plate.
Job done !!!
That's an interesting point, has anyone photoshopped it black yet!!?
