Idle musing. What does it cost to design a car like this, start a factory and production line and set up a network of dealers and maintenance programs etc? Basically, how much do you need up front before you can start selling cars and generating income?

£50m?
£100m?
£500m?

I really have no idea.
I think there was an amount of 30 Mio GBP over 5 years stated somewhere. Not sure that this is the amount you need until you have a car that can be sold though. Depends wildly on the actual plan, sales projection, etc. and the involved investments needed.
Wow, that doesn't sound like much.

Well within reach of a lotto winner, if he or she was so inclined.
Yes, but don't forget, most people prefer investments to write-offs. You need a profitable business to make a return on capital. If things go wrong, you'll soon find yourself thinking about return OF capital. Spending the 30 Mio on building a car + company is very easy. But being able to repay a 30 Mio loan out of profits could prove very tricky. That's probably why investors aren't standing in line to invest in small, independent car-companies.

The New Griffith will be at Topcats Racing this comming saturday (20th) with Les and his team in attendance.
www.topcatsracing.com
Topcats are giving £500 towards the purchase for anyone that places a deposit on the day and pays it by the 26th.
I will certainly be going along to try and get a sit in it.bounce

So the car will be on show this weekend with Les & Co in attendance taking deposits, yet there are claims the project is about to be put on hold..hmmmm something doesn't add up here!!!

Back in July (which I mentioned on this thread, but it was over 80 pages back!) a deposit slot was up for sale on ebay for £5499. Didn't sell. It was relisted in September with an INCREASED premium of £799 (??). Still didn't sell:

Sam (above Facebook) looks pretty serious. I met him last night, he has a Supercharged Nomad already, seemed very keen about the new TVRGriffith. He posted that yesterday evening

If the griff is as good as they say it is, you will be looking at healthy premiums, easily £10k - if it drives as good as it looks, there will be discounted LEs before they are even built and TVR's future will be no more.

When I say discounts, you will get things thrown in for "free" 3 year/5 year service plans/warranty etc. anything that will prop up the failing business.

Obviously, I am looking forward to the griff, but I am selfish too, so I won't support TVR if the car is crap or just good, it needs to excel. If it not what I expect (like the way it looks) I will walk away, I hope I will still be able to post here though because I have a feeling I'll be missing out still!

So, is this not the ideal opportunity to find out when the update is coming; is the necessary investment in place; how the factory is progressing; how many staff are now working for the company; when do you expect the first car off the line etc?
If they are taking deposits this must surely be the ideal time to ask Mr Edgar some straight questions?
Then all the rumours can be put to bed once and for all? scratchchin

The coming event has the dealer throwing in 10% of the deposit. But that may be a strategic play from the dealer to gain marketshare, so it isn't necessarily an indicator of the wider environment.

Is it 10% of the deposit or just a £500 contribution to the end cost of the car, as long as the person pays the deposit by the 26th?

What reason would Topcats have to pay 10% of the deposit, unless it’s being underwritten by TVR themselves? And is this for a LE car or a post LE car?

Had my car serviced at my local Tvr place yesterday, part of the network, and when I asked his opinion of the new car, and its timescale, he just took a large intake of air and rolled his eyes.

I wish! I'm stoney broke so not in a position to buy one of these although a nice drive from Leeds down to Topcats in the SD1 (TVR engine of course) wouldn't go amiss. wink

Correct, it is £500 towards the purchase of the car provided that the deposit is paid now. In the context of "sweeteners" the question has to be whether this is Topcats funding their brand, or whether it is TVR offering the discount but allowing Topcat to claim it as theirs as a way of improving the optics.

£500 on a £90k car isn't much, but every little helps!

As the LE deposits are 'sold out' I believe and a waiting list for a spot should someone drop out.

That £500 will be off an MYO1 configurable car at OTR ~£80k before options, I presume..

Perhaps there should be a PH march to TopCats with a placard saying
‘We’ve Interpreted The Public Accounts And Apparently You Are All Wasting Your Time!’

Min 100m and that's a shoe string budget
