Someone has just told me that the engine blew on the Tamora because the driver changed down from 4th to 1st. Was this admitted in Autocar? Red faces all round methinks....

True. Apparently the engine had seen 9,800 rpm when the factory analysed it later.

Do you seriously think they'd admit Tiffany Needle blew the damn thing up, of course not that would ruin the TVR baiting they all indulge in that keeps them going on light news days... Rich.

roadsweeper,

The info was straight from customer service at the factory. Call and ask if you want to be absolutely sure.

Oh dear, things are confusing in the world of TVR. I spoke to TVR about this incident recently. There was a Tamora a few months back that suffered this fate on a TVR Performance Technique day when a guest driver changed from fourth to first and lunched the engine (I saw and heard the car myself as I was there).

They also confirmed to me that the Autocar problem was a dropped valve.

Sounds like a case of Chinese whispers here.

Thanks for the clarification Ted. I did see your post regarding the dropped valve, but thought this new information was the cause.

Hmmmmm... Interesting !

Considering this came straight from the factory, when I directly asked them as part of a general chat about the Speed 6 reliability. Suspect they were just trying to make me feel comfortable.

We've gone full circle here. TVR contacted me to set the record straight when this thread first started.

Seeing as it's happy Friday and that this thread is no repeating itself, I'm taking an executive decision to close it! Time to move on
