Complete waste of time. Obviously a wind up or someone with too much time on hands.
No practical application whatsoever. Poor old Tesla will be turning in his grave (assuming all the relays solenoids and batteries actually kick in )
:-)

You guys are missing the point here- enough batteries you can get 1.21 gigawatts of electrical power, reach 88 mph on the starter alone and lightning display thanks to all those relays arcing away.

As many many many many others have said, not sure why you can't just go with an uprated starter/battery/cables? Or if there really is nothing 12V suitable, why can't a conventional 24V starter system be adapted?

Your cats cradle 18V proposed solution whilst clever, is equally ridiculous and a disaster that will quickly happen. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Seems like you need to have a fundamental rethink around what you're trying to achieve. If you can't get something off the shelf to do the job you need it to then there is something fundamentally wrong with whatever it is you're building.

You mention compression ratio as an issue for whatever it is you're building as justification. But as an example, a Merecedes AMG M159 6.3L NA V8 with well over 600bhp and a compression ratio of 11.3:1 is quite happily spun by a production grade 12V system, what the juddering fk are you playing at?

I initially read your user name as drs_dave and wondered if you were going to talk aerodynamics.

Anyway...

While the big AMG has a high compression ratio and many cylinders, what about the V10 diesel in the Phaeton? A massive engine, heavy rotating assemblies, and a large compression ratio.

Still, it's entertaining to listen to bonkers ideas. The phrase "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" springs to mind. Some geezer thinks he knows a bit about vehicle electrics: proceeds to add 3 x 6v batteries, a rat's nest wiring loom and more relays than the Maplins discount bin! laughlaugh

Can you post a link to the original thread. Did a quick look but it wasn't obvious. Oh, what car do you drive?

It looks like I'll need to alter this diagram, at the time of my drawing of this diagram I didn't know that some manufacturers including Bentley were already using 48 Volts for some circuits
