Had a reply. He no longer has the TVR body and there is plenty of space for the rad and there will be plenty of leg room for the driver / passenger.

From memory, rods of this type see the driver perched nearer the back seats so I see no issue with leg room either.

Hi everyone. I'm the fool who ended up buying this and I've just stumbled across this thread. I'm getting the impression that there isn't much love for the project but here's an update photo for anyone who's interested.

I think the lack of love is more because no TVR lover likes to see them broken up or destroyed needlessly.

However, we don't know the background. Was the donor car involved in an accident and the body badly damaged? Or was it a good body, which was then used to keep an accident damaged car alive rather than being scrapped?

I have nothing against your project and wish you luck with it.

Likewise. And I admire your fabrication work, did you swage the panels yourself?

Cheers guys smile I fully accept that everyone is entitled to their opinion on what should and shouldn't be done to cars but that's what makes the world an interesting place.

I don't know the history of the Chimaera donor (or the Standard body shell). I'm keeping the chassis and mechanicals as standard as possible so it's still possible it could be converted back to a Chim one day... although I really hope that won't happen! laugh

All of the fabrication work has been done by me, in my garage, at evenings and weekends. I bought a bead roller and an English wheel and taught myself how to use them. I'm an engineer by trade but ironically I work with composites so making something entirely from steel is quite therapeutic! smash

Best of luck flying9. If my car was written off but the chassis and engine could be salvaged I wouldn't have a problem if someone wanted to get creative especially if they were learning and enjoying new skills. Fair play to you beer

Personally I love hot rods.. so feel free to post pictures up as the build progresses.

I'm always amazed to see big block ford v8 stuffed into Ford Pops and Anglia's
when I'm at Santa Pod.

Tvr being a continuous line of improvement via owners bank accounts biggrin and many a good mod to enable everything from better running to sealing leaks.
This is’nt so far removed as you might think.
Great job your doing by the looks of it and I agree, plenty of pictures as you go.
Many on here will be able to offer good advice from the electro/ mechanical front so keep in touch thumbup

I'm sure I'll be in here asking a thousand questions once I get to the stage of fitting the wiring loom and getting the thing running!

Couple more pics below. The body's off at the moment so I can finish some welding on the body and refurb / rebuild the back end mechanicals (which isn't far off being complete now). Next job is brake lines and fuel lines, then I might make a dashboard, maybe make some seats, start working out where the loom goes, plumb in the cooling system, work out some demisting, fabricate and weld some bottoms on the doors, fit some door latches... The list is endless! laugh

There was one at Neil Garners open day back in 2015 that was all hand built, not sure what ever happened to that.

Good luck with your project

Massive clap from me. Love the quality of the fabrication work inside the car. I really like the way you have fabricated around the transmission tunnel.clap
As others have said, keep posting updates with pics, and there is a mine of info on here for any mechanical/electrical queries im sure you will have moving forward.
