I went to one TVR meet. I felt facially hair challenged amongst so many older beard owners.

Travelling from a super market car park, to a cafe, to a pub. I mean how much do you wanna eat in one day hehe
I miight be wrong but it sounds like you joined us...sorry if my beard offended you. wink

I'm not here to fight the clubs corner as I know its not for everyone but as a region we've always strived to keep away from 'politics' as people love to quote on here. It's about getting out with like minded people & I still see many days out arranged on PH that follow exactly the format you describe above & it's a popular format.

I've been on PH pretty much from day one & organised events that had over 300 cars in attendance! I Our region was reborn through PH & I've met people who have become friends for life as a result. I rarely post these days but at the same time I dont often post on the TVRCC website, I follow both regularly & enjoy the banter but miss the fellowship we used to enjoy on here.

If I recall if you use the club code to get SilverstoneClassic tickets you pretty much pay for your TVRCC membership in one go.

Different strokes for different folks, but TVRCC bashing gets a bit much sometimes when all any of us want to do is get out there & enjoy the cars. Come to the meets, dont bother joining the club, enjoy PH, grow a beard, do whatever floats your boat...lifes too short!

Feel the love people

Following my earlier grumping, I should say that Nick at SEL Kent always put in a good meet and organised loads of trips out. As did Pauline at Mid-Essex.

As said, it’s not for everyone.. but for the sake of £60 you should give it a go.

Ex member here. If you look at the events pages you can see huge differences in the way the regions are run. I often wished I lived nearer to those with very active club events, sadly in West Yorkshire there is very little. Check the pages and they never post on here and when I was a member, their round up in the magazine was particularly poor.
I also made the huge mistake of trying to warn the members who were using a certain TVR garage about being ripped off. I've received abuse from current TVRCC members who are very friendly with this garage.

I've been to Burghley 3 times. First time in the Cerb and was followed most of the way by a member in a Tuscan. Parked up and said hello and he walked off. The other elderly neighbour was far more pleasant.
Second time and neither neighbour bothered to speak. Third time the same.

Fortunately, from being on here I've met some great people both at Burghley, Cars in the Park Lotherton, Newby Hall etc. I definitely don't need the cliquey club.

Insurance discount? Absolutely zero.

If cost is your main driver, maybe I can offer some advice.
My TVRCC membership cost is paid for, almost twice, in the insurance cost reduction through Footman James. Even if I don't do anything with the club, I'm significantly financially better off.

Cadwell Park is too far away for me to risk my TVR on my first track day - I've already killed one!
I found Footman James very expensive, got a much better deal from AIB who offer a discount for PH members.

Just to nudge this back on topic....for those that don’t know, on the club forum, the club has agreed to review if they get 20 more bookings for Cadwell tpover thsi weekend before they restart at the office on Monday.

A number of those who were previously deliberating are now committing so it is possible....can you make the difference?.... go on, blow those cobwebs away and have some fun at the British Nerbergring ..... you know you want to.

As usual on here you mention car club and it turns into a slagging match.

To cover the original question the answer is its what you want from ownership and rest assured you can have both.
I love a bit of polishing and i like a pristine car.
However i also love using the cars and even more so when friends come over and i throw them the keys and we take them all out for a run or event with the instruction to keep up.

I have one member in my region who polishes and cleans his car to an amazing level avoids rain etc and the car is just stunning.
So i was rather surprised last year when he booked this day.
Not only did he have a blast but even a little crash and came home on a trailer.
Well you would think that is his last track day.
Not a chance only this year £1000 of track day tires to hopefully keep him on the track and a Transporter booked to take the car up this time encase they dont and hotel booked to be polite the gentleman is not happy.

If you dont want to be in a Car club that is fine you really dont need to justify why thats your call.
Just enjoy your car and come on the track day where TVRs are certainly at home.

It's the same with many car clubs.

I was a member of Ford RSOC for 32 years.
Membership of RSOC is mere fraction of what it was in the 80s,90s.

Club politics, alternative forums ,cars being scrapped all affected that.

Even the concours polishing comp has dwindled, nobody wants to take their car out
Because £££££££££.

To answer the original question, TVRs are for both polishing and driving and each owner will have his (or her) balance of which they do most. I have never been a great polisher, but I appreciate the work involved when I see a really nice car that someone has kept pristine.

The reason I am not doing the trackday (other than the fact it is not that local to me) is simply that at present I am putting all my spare time and spare money into my TVR in order that I will be able to drive it again.

I am a club member and have been for over twenty years (I hadn't even heard of pistonheads in those days). I enjoy being a club member, but I appreciate that it isn't for everyone and also it does depend on how active the local regions are, and also what you want out of the club.

While it would be great if this particular track day went ahead, there are plenty of trackdays run by organisations that are nothing to do with the club. My experience from years ago when I did a few trackdays was that the club trackdays tended to be better organised and better value for money than some of the events run by commercial organisations.

Just my 2ps worth.

I wish you well with it, people tend to leave confirming to the last minute these days & it's an organisational nightmare on so many fronts as a result.

I'm not suprised the venue got a bit twitchy but it looks like you've all managed to turn things around...well done!

LOL, another club vs no club.

The magazine is a quality production, the articles are only what you send it and the adverts are also interesting at times.

Like any club/organisation, you sometimes get people with an inflated opinion of their worth, but my interactions with the main people have mostly been very positive. You've the ladies from the office manning the mobile TVR stand at many shows over the year, free valuations of your vehicle for insurance purposes, then maybe some discounts that are worth it. They do a lot to keep the TVR brand name alive.

At the local level the RO's are brilliant, many organising great trips/event.

For the little bit of money that costs per year, I think that's worth it.

As for driving and polishing, I would of course say driving, but then when everyone else turns up with a spotless car and yours is filthy, it tends to embarrass one into giving it a clean for next time.

People join (or don’t join) car clubs for all sorts of reasons.
If I was hell-bent on track days I’d probably join some all-make club that was focussed in that direction.

Re the TVRCC I’m only a member for the bits of info i glean from the magazine. The club itself has never offered much to me.
I hope the new TVR company succeeds and refreshes the club from top to bottom.

The problem is... it’s largely not. In the year that I was a member there was a bunch of stories with low value, of how people took there car to xyz, they changed the oil, hoovered the car and said “are you being served”. Kind of worthless.

It endorsed crook establishments with air time for RND. I know the story that it’s not DD it’s bad project management but he still takes the money so let’s stop pretending.

What would give the publication value would be taking a car and doing an in depth series over 12 or 24 months on how to rebuild xyz.. call it “in the workshop”. Give knowledge, Instill confidence, and make the readership want the next edition.

They also could have worked on sourcing the original work ship manuals and making them available exclusively to club members. I suggested this on here and as per posts above lots of guffaw “we’re looking into it” but no output.

The clubs kind of stuck... it probably needs to ditch the heiracrhy type thing (which results in the bickering mentioned above) and become more dynamic. Having said that the people that work the club presumably have day jobs so it’s going to be more easily fulfilled by the semi retired.

Omg...looks like the club track day at Caldwell is going to be cancelled due to lack of interest!

Do I need to sell my TVR and find a club for people who actually want to drive their cars?
Don't know why this has degenerated into a club vs no club discussion, but not everyone who likes to drive their car, is keen on track days.

Me, I like to take my TVR on road trips and have covered up to 15,000 km in a year but although I tentatively drove my car on track on two or three occasions and have some track experience with my former 'hobby' car, I am not a track day goer in se - for starters I am of the persuasion that one should only drive a car on track if they can afford to leave it there as a steaming heap.

Also, a fantastic track car is likely a frustrating road car and vice versa. If I were sort of serious about going to trackdays, I'd get something disposable like an old MX-5, Clio or MG ZS and set it up specifically for the task at hand, instead.

Don't make this a drivers vs. polishers thing. For now, there's still enough pleasure and adventure available on public roads.

I can see that certain types of track day could be most useful to me especially as to date have not even sat in my Chimaera let alone driven it so being able to get used to it in a safe controlled environment would be most useful. As it is will just have to take it carefully and easy on the roads and head for quieter ones to get familiar with her.

That's good news.

To be honest I haven't booked on due to lack of time, it's 3.5 hours each way to ca dwell for me.

Track day wise I also prefer to use something disposable or hire a car...

Must try and make the effort to bring the Griff sometime though.
