'When I were a lad' of 24 (2 years ago), I insured my '98 4.0 Chimaera for a shade just over a grand, fully comprehensive. I had no points, 3 years no claims and was living in Watford. This included track days too (which I don't think they include now).

That was with Priveledge, by the way.

Edited: Forgot to put what year my Chimaera was.

Seems Priviledge are the guys to speak to.
I think the whole NCD thing might play a big part.
But it's nice to know it's possible without selling my kidney.

Thanks guys

Privilege were the cheapest for me when I 1st got the Chimaera, 3 years ago, do they still do the 'Masterdrive' discount? Basically a 1 hour driving assessment which would be hard to fail, and you qualify for a 10% discount (or at least you did)

Try Peart associates, there is a link in the oily pages and they advertise on this site, they quoted about £1300 for a Griff 500 for me, I’m 24 live in London but have 6 years no claims.

Try direct line / Tesco's (they are the same) - they offer "introductory" discouts of upto 35% if you have a clean record but no no-claims to prove it.

Also the on-line ones will allow you to "play" around with excesses etc until you get a quote in your price range.

Good luck!

Seems like 30 is the new 25!! Recently getting qoutes for a Chimaera 450, was told that my wife who is 29 would put up my premiumby a lot if a named driver. Also was initially told by one company (Can't remember which) that they could not offer me insurance as my then current car was not powerful enough rwd!! (It was an MR2), when I explained that it was turbo charged they agreed to give me a quote!!!

I've just done an online quote from Privilege for a '93 Griff 4.3 valued at £15k and they quoted £1,900 fully comp (£200 excess). Quite reasonable I thought.

Congrats Incorrigible. I believe you were closest.
I have a little more saving to do, but hopefully I can join the gang soon.

Thanks for everyone's help.

As Joust pointed out, you can 'tinker' with the excess on the quotes from Privilege, and as far as I can make out; if you up your excess by say £200, you cut the premium by about £180. It seems to be about 10%.

So if you do have to claim once in the year, then you're not really that badly out of pocket. It only really becomes a factor if you need to claim more than once. 'Course, if you don't claim at all, you're laughing. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Alas I am no longer eligible for Club 18-30 or even Club 18+30 but I shopped around (no NCB as company car)and wound up at Sunnighill who cost 1/3 of NU Direct and 1/2 of Tesco

I got quotes on a Maser 222 bi turbo with 9 yrs NCB, no points, at age 28 that ranged between £1,200 & £8,500. The car was only going to cost £6,995 so you can imagine how much I larffed at 8 grand
