In peak season that is nothing...they'd park up trees if they could save a couple of pence..they're everywhere. The reason the charge is so high is that too many muppets come and enjoy the area and then promptly leave all their rubbish lying everywhere. It is really quite disheartening to see it after the sun comes out. It's cheaper in the winter !!

We should make some formal representation to the National Trust given that we actually paid our £3.50 and didn't park on the A30 like many folks did. Must qualify for a volume discount?

I don't think it's NT - it's certainly not in any of my NT member books. AFAIK it's "crown estate" - same green colour as NT, but totally "private" and hence charge what they like.

There are a few NT car parks around (see my post on "Virginia Water 20TH October PH Meet") that aren't barriered and can take that many cars.

Guys,
Just some things to run by you.
The Porsche Club GB organised an event not far from Virginia Water within the Windsor Forest Crown Estate land.I think that they had 20-30 cars turn up.It was a large grass car park, open to the general public,no entry charge, as far as I am aware. They had only been there for a fairly short time, when an irate Warden from the Crown Estates Office turned up and tried to turf them out as they didn't have permission for an 'organised event'My point is that V.Water is a tried and tested venue,we have had no problems so far,and the last event was the 3rd there I think. We have to do our homework very carefully before useing any of the other venues that have been suggested in the area.
I know that there are some problems with VW, ie the £3.50 entry by change, but I think that for the type of event that was held there on the 22/09 it was pretty good overall?
Regards
Steve

Steve, I'm with you here - VW offers lots parking and option for food, beers etc - overall good choice until we get adventurous next year and take a day trip to France!

Rob, Matt, Mark and other W Londoners - we could go for another Chiswick meet if I promise not to agitate the BIB again! (I thought that was a perfectly legitiate manoeuvre - perhapes a little too much raw power for that early a Chiswick morning!!)

Cheers

Yes, it's true the wardens get annoyed when you hold a "group meeting" in the Park without requesting permission first. The Berks TVRCC held a picnic in Windsor Great Park in Summer 2000, and were promptly told off by the Crown authorities (they were allowed to stay). Summer Picnic 2001 saw the Club request permission first, and the event was held without a hitch. The thing with WGP is the ground can be really dodgy, especially at the end of the summer. Some precious vehicles will not have the clearance!

I agree with Steve that Virginia Water is tried and tested, plenty of room, and a pub to boot The £3.50 you have to pay is pittance for the sheer entertainment value of such a day

OK Tim, spill the beans, what did you do to upset the boys in blue?
I thought the venue was great & would have no problem with meeting there next time.
Can anyone else see the irony in the fact that we all drive the most stunning cars on the planet but complain about paying £3.50 to park for a day out, it just doesn't seem worth worrying about for such a great venue.
(I'll get me coat)

Was going to say that if a SEAT owner can afford a £3.50p car park fee then I'm sure you exotica guys can, or am I wrong in my thinking?

I can't see how anyone can complain about £3.50 entry when it costs £45 or so to fill up with petrol!!

I dream of the day I can squeeze that much fuel in in one go! (and that's Optimax)

Please don't get me wrong on the £3.50 or the venue, well worth the money. I was just amazed by the number of people who had parked outside to avoid the fee AND then used the N.Trust facility!

I really cant believe that there are people on here begrudge spending £3.50 to park at what seems like a good location, you must spend three times that amount getting there in the first place. theres to many people here with short arms and sewn up pockets

It does seem a little strange this £3.50 issue. It does go down in the winter, for those of you who wish to wait!! I think VW is a great location for static show but for the lads who wish to terrorise the local neighbourhood(hee..hee)it makes things a little tricky. My idea would be to talk to the Crown Estate and see if anything can be done about the re-entry situation.By the way this is not the only good parking location around VW !!

Let's charge the general public a fiver to walk amongst the cars . . . . have a guided tour etc . .
They'll think it's a organised motor show with the numbers we turn up in!

It's not paying the £3.50 that I minded - just that the barrier entry system seemed to rather limit the ability to come and go as you please.

Also - I thought the suggestion of giving the £3.50's to charity if you could find a "free" place was well worth the merit - having a meet and making a few £100's for a well deserved charity seemed to be a fine idea.

I'll have a think and perhaps a scout around and see if I can come up with a tarmac/gravel car park around the area that doesn't have a £3.50 per in/out charge - but whatever - I'd be more than happy to go back to VW.
