Which was more than likely the case all along.

I suspect if TVR gave a truthful update of the current dire situation even the stubbornest of deposit holders would ask for their money back, a situation that would spell the immediate death of a dying project, and it wouldn't surprise me if the money was not readily available to do this.

Shares in a country club anyone?

Just going back to the kit car discussion, I worked for Caterham in '69/'70 and I clearly remember Lotus 7's, Elans, Tuscan's, and Vixens arriving in 'kit' form, basically a diy fit the back axle/suspension components/engine and gearbox etc. This avoided the dreaded purchase tax, the assembly of the car by Caterham costing less than the tax... Purchase tax was discontinued in 1973 (by VAT) at which time it was levied at 25%.........

If you were at all handy and had the necessary tools etc you could have the 'kit' on the road in less than a weekend... Assuming all the right bits had been supplied biggrin

Maybe.

I wonder what’s the reason for the lack of funding though?

Is it a lack of depositors putting off investors or is it simply that people who might fund the project don’t think it’s viable at all? If there were thousands of deposits presumably people would be more willing to invest in it?

Before it was all about the EU and factory delays, then snippets came out about sourcing parts and now it’s actually just about a lack of money.
LE could probably afford to stump up the readies himself, but its the thing to use someone else's money and let them take the risk. Not like the old days or me who would have to put house/business/cat up as collateral.

What a farce this is now. Any deposit holders still happy with this, should be sectioned.
Oh I dunno - if I was a deposit holder I would maybe be looking at the longer term with eyes on the big prize. When this all collapses which it surely is going to there will still be one car - and that car is going to be very highly sought after for someones TVR collection if Les decides (or is forced to) get rid.

From the White Elephant to the very early motor show Griff with S interior and door handles to Gaffers prototype Sagaris. The Vulcan, Speed12, the last Cerbera etc, one off or quirky history TVR's have always been in demand.

There is a small but dedicated band of TVR collectors etc. that I am sure would kill for the only Griff. They may be working behind the scenes to get their mitts on it. Remember the deposit is peanuts and the prize enormous.

It’ll be spirited away shortly before. It can’t be used on the road anyway so it’s not much use apart from historical interest / static display.

I wonder who Les accepts calls from....

No to deposit holders, journalists, anything to do with marketing.

Yes to Welsh Ministers, funders, Trixie.

Just for the sake of discussion, was this venture initiated with the very best of intentions, a genuine intent to bring TVR storming back... or a business mans opportunity seized to simply make ££££££££ regardless of heritage and the faithful followers... maybe a combination of both.... perhaps
scratchchin either way, at this moment in time it seems (to me) like an epic fail... as mentioned above, if new Griff looked drop dead gorgeous things might have been different (with some added management savvy)... still looks gopping to me, and I know what I’m talking about, I’ve got an Aston. Hang on that didn’t come out right... yes yes m4tti another plug, still the Chim is quicker smile
If only it would start..... smile

Only if its liquidated - nothing to stop Les selling it beforehand. Obviously Les would still to sell it to the highest bidder but someone who is serious has a communications channel in via a deposit to open negotiations. Sure the vast majority of deposit holders are just hoping against hope that the project goes ahead. My bets is a very small number have accepted this isn't going to happen and just want the car for a collection. They won't give a stuff its not road legal, and more over are still deposit holders because, and want, the project to collapse! as they then have a very exclusive car and piece of hostory.

I think there has been a lot of naivety by newco in taking a dream to reality. 20 years ago this may have been more achievable but in today's red tape society things have moved on. While Edgar was associated with Aston racing (not sure what he actually did?) I believe its always been a dream of his to race his own car at Le Mans. TVR was the vehicle for the dream but building a brand new car in 2019/2020/2021 has been far harder and hugely more expensive than he has realised.
But I have doubts about his commitment to TVR sadly. Yes he has put up his farm at big risk etc etc but he's bought a golf course and hotel which is being invested in, runs a bar, runs a farm so really, is his heart in the right place? Is this 100% commitment to bringing TVR back or just a businessman seeing an opportunity to realise his dream? scratchchin

How do you know? (If you don't mind me asking)

How many were there at the maximum (approx.)?

If that is fact then TVR is dead in the water. No wonder they are struggling to get further financing.

Assuming of course it is true.

IIRC Les is on record as saying that the project to build a car pre-dated the availability of the TVR brand and, in fact, he was attempting to secure a different marque (which?) - TVR was the consolation prize.
