As much as I am keen to buy a little mopeds of sorts, definitely a classic one, I have three cars, one electric mountain bike and a pair of legs. Even though I retired last year I hardly have time it seems to use them at all!

Not entirely true but it seems the lack of places I need to go to leaves me more time to tinker which I thoroughly enjoy which certainly doesn’t eat up the miles!
Most of my riding is just shaking down my latest fettle or mods. It’s really about looking at them and admiring your work.
65mph out of an actual 50cc moped is unlikely but more than possible given some power mods and gearing.
Mines a 125 and I wouldn’t want to go much lower,, I’m chasing 12hp at the mo which is not easy to achieve on what is basically BSA Bantam engine. If it wasn’t for the MZ engine design the Bantam would not have existed.

Rangie 4.6 P38 daily. Love it….
Skoda Octavia vRS TD car
Boxster S. soft top and occasional TD car

Defo room for a bike. Preferably an oldie to tinker with.

Funny. The older I get, the more I just want older vehicles. New stuff does absolutely nothing for me at all.

Hmm... So, those of you in the know, will any of these classic mopeds do 60-65mph?

Only three cars Peter? Does that include your track day car? Obviously includes the Pork thing smile
The Puch fraternity have a listing of engine/gearing and carb types and it seems under the 50cc category quite a few have got to 70mph, and even more with a 60 or 70cc piston and barrel. The standard engine max of 30mph can be increased by just removing the very thick head gasket to increase compression and knocking out some exhaust baffles and replacing them with the concave bottom of a coke can!!!!

TVR now late with submitting their accounts.
Unless they have applied for a 3 month extension but they will need to show a good reason. Anyway this delay gives me the chance to read how all these old men are going to be like a swarm of angry hornets buzzing around on mopeds reliving their yoof.

Old men?

OLD MEN???

I’ll have you know I get mistaken for a teenager all the time!!!

Only yesterday I was in discussion with an eBay seller who wouldn’t tell me their reserve. OK the conversation got a bit fruity but the point is they actually asked me if I was still at school !

So put that up ya tailpipe.

Nice!

The 70cc engine barrel, induction and exhaust kit on the Puch is about £175. This is 99% on the Tinkerometer and a Grade A Fettle.

Still concerned about lack of indicators, and what happens if I meet myself coming the other way in the TVR though.

Had a trawl through mopeds and small classic bikes last night. I really couldn't believe the price of them! A lot were complete rubbish and needed work for the sort of money you could've bought a half decent motorcycle a few years back..........

The bottle plant is to be built on the land behind (north east of) the proposed TVR factory on what is currently waste land.

It’s why I settled on MZ.
They were the cheapest bike when new and still are.
They do some great older models usually 250 cc but the prices of those are also quite expensive.
I thought what bike won’t get stolen in town,,,, Nobody rates MZ for fairly good reasons and they are not worth a lot.. yet every eastern person cranes their necks when they hear it. I think I’m actually on a very popular bike!
I’m now paranoid to leave it anywhere.
A Honda C 90 would be like parking a gold bar and walking off.
2.5k for one of those fully restored and scum know it.
A complete new exhaust pipe for my TS 125 is only around £100 so it’s a practical classic.
My end can is just a bit of a joke and me trying to attain some MZcred which is a thing.
I put on a second hand speedo cable off another owner for £8 sent!
I’m sure the cute thing to do would be to buy a shed full of bikes and sell parts on.
My bike is an attempt to ride a bike for no real money.
Historic status, no tax or MOT. Just insurance which is also very cheap.
It’s a huge amount of smiles per mile.
I went to a local Cafe known for car and bike meets. It’s just so rare people love the sound and smell of it, just smile and you can tell memories flood back through their minds.
All of a sudden everyone loves them.
It’s the two stroke engine mostly which provokes it.
Plug chops will become a big part of your life... like thrashing your Tvr then cutting ignition at 6000 revs, rolling to a stop and pulling plugs to check fuelling. My form of rolling road tuning.
I’m considering a 35 over a 40 pilot jet as it’s a bit rich around town......... thumbup

Probably the Cub for reasons that only old men understand. wink

Not to be confused with old men driving around in small Nissans and Peugeot’s!

Brilliantly put!
Yes, we all despised MZ's back in the day, so it's kinda poetic that the ugly duckling is having its finest hour in its dotage... alongside us, its former tormentors! rofl.
Glad you're enjoying it.

I used to hate them. CZ were worse which didn’t seem possible even back then.
I was into Suzuki RM motocross bikes when these MZ just looked like a 1940’s piece of slow junk to me but that agricultural build is now charm personified.
Genius now I know how poor the average person in the east was. I now understand commuter vehicles and how these simple old bikes fired blokes around the farming countryside and often hundreds of miles a day!
Speed isn’t everything.
A Jap bike from the same era are now all rebuilt or rotting to bits. It’s why they are so expensive to buy a good one now because hardly any of it will be original o/e as the exhausts etc disintegrate.
I think my MZ is quality build using materials that last forever. But it’s still like a 1950’s bike but faster. Pure charm.
Oddly I now find it one of the prettiest small bikes from that 1970’s era because of its classic looks.
I’d probably go for a Suzuki GT550 if I wanted something Japanese fragile and expensive.
But I think this is more fun because it’s better on small lanes and local roads which is where I love to ride. Had to cross town at rush hour,,,, took 7 mins as opposed to 25 in a car sat in traffic barely moving. The ruddy irony.
