Whilst I don't have the depth of historical knowledge of most people on here, at 20 or more years old most engines have by now been rebuilt at least once with years of collective parts and experience knowledge. At the risk of calling on the 2020 year cursed gods, I would say my 5L crank at 66k miles is OK in that it would have gone by now if it was going to.

Of course this is applicable to all old Rover V8's, so if reliability is your main concern, look for a recently rebuilt or cam replaced and aftermarket ECU'd car from a reputable fitter/mapper junking most of the potentially unreliable 1970's designed electronics. The day after I collected my 5L it was with Joolz to have an Emerald fitted that I took as a £1500 preventative maintenance item and mitigating many reliability risks.
