Is anything at all coming out of TVR these days or have they now simply put their heads in the sand and just going "La la la" and hoping it all just goes away?

Surely the muppets in the Welsh assembly must be now putting their lawyers on the case to at least get a few pennies in the pound back......

This is the last statement from the Govt (Jan 2023). Note the political speak. i.e.waffle as this is the exact same response numerous times since 2017

"Our officials remain in discussion with TVR and its advisors over the funding and delivery of its car production plant in Wales. Lawyers for both parties are also actively considering the proposed legal agreements for the building. The outcome of these various discussions is anticipated in the near future."

Wonder if the Govt will get their £500,000 'investment' back if it goes tits up. Doesn't matter though, its only public money and the residents of Ebbw Vale don't need it as they are on a par with the posh lot in Surrey. biglaugh

Why don’t you read between the lines a bit! Obviously the Welsh Gov are not going to announce anything public which will draw ridicule or indeed make it harder for Tvr to raise finance.

The welsh have a decent facility which if we ever actually start to grow is well placed and now ready to be leased.

The fact the company they were helping to realise a dream namely TVR have failed to hold there end of the bargain when it comes to finance and actually taking on this building is where the problem lies.

Jesus it’s a few million the welsh have speculated with,,, think tanks and official groups constantly spend way more than that courtesy of the English gov and indeed waste billions on train lines that few of the population will ever use.
What about the 28 billion lost to rich friends of the English conservative gov who took the money but never produced anything during the Covid crisis
Ironically we have jumped from 120 billionaires in 2020 to 170 by 2021/2………………..
Make what you will of that.
When England gives back the trillions owed to the welsh for the coal they stole to build England’s industrial base Wales would do ok as a major centre of wealth and international growth I reckon thumbup
Just like Ireland are doing by staying in the EEC.

The answer to all the above is yes, yes, yes.

I know firsthand about mobility and how it works. I had a couple of guys work for me, whose wives allegedly were so disabled, (I’ve got a bad back) that they had brand-new mobility cars. One was even a Renault Megane cc. The time the fkwit son stole it and crashed it right next to the spot where Mark Bolan died. She had a replacement within a week.

Having been a building trade employer all my life I have dozens of stories of guys who are happy to tell everyone else how they milk the system. From cars, houses to holidays paid by us because of the strain that they are suffering from having a slightly disabled son. All the time they are laughing all the way to the bank. Almost one-upmanship amongst the guys!

Of course, there are genuine examples, but the system isn’t designed to weed out the non-genuine types.

As to the general public and global warming and cost of living, hardly anyone gives a damn about global warming, apart from paying a little lipservice. Pretty much everyone is keen to go abroad on cheap subsidised flights paid for by you guessed, us.

And what about the Cornish tin and china clay? Cornwall would be independant by now and a wealthy country aligned with Ireland and France.

All those billionaires. I agree, really terrible because none of them do anything useful and are just a dreadful drain on society. They should immediately hand over all their wealth to people like Classic Chim and myself. We are not envious, oh no, we just want a fair society, like the Soviet Union used to be, before they had their own multi-billionaires. It would be fun, because then other people would be envious of us.

Hold on a minute - the wealthiest man in Britain started a business that now employs over 26,000 people and contributes an enormous amount to the UK economy.
I don't want his money, because there would there be 26,000 families without any income ? Perhaps Chim is capable of managing businesses in 29 countries, but I just want to continue lazing around in the betting shop, then once a week walk to the dole office.

Not only coal, what happened to Welsh copper mining? Forget Shanghai,  Swansea was once the busiest port in the world. It must have been the Tories who brought all that to an end. And fancy teaching the Welsh people to speak English.

Yes, those new train lines, what a waste. That money should be used to immediately obtain more doctors (forget it takes about 8 years to train a consutant, I am sure that could be fast-tracked somehow, after all, some of them probably already possess their own Stanley knives).
It was exactly the same years ago, when a peoples' uprising protested against building the M25.
Those protesters were wise people, who could forsee the future. No one will ever need a motorway they said. The existing roads will be more than adequate.

Wonder if Kier Starmer happened to be amongst those wise protesters. What he describes as his "tough working class upbringing", was in leafy Oxted, Surrey. The photo below shows what used to be the main A25 road through Oxted.
You can see in the lower picture, the M25 traffic today. Surely all that traffic could easily fit through Oxted High Street, it just needs a little thought and ingenuity. Perhaps to start with, introduce fines to get rid of those parked cars, because that would double the capacity. There is no need for a hard shoulder, simply give it a new name. How about Smart Road? There was no need to waste billions building the M25.

'Obviously the Welsh Gov are not going to announce anything public which will draw ridicule, or indeed make it harder for Tvr to raise finance.'

Very good. That is priceless.

Funny how there is such a major Police operation underway, at a property on a modern housing estate.
What is that giant gazebo for in the front garden ?
Perhaps forensics are digging down, trying to find a box marked SWAG, containing the missing £600,000.

And why is it Great British Pounds that are missing?
Perhaps a clever double bluff, because you would expect people who put the word independence in every sentence, to at least convert into Euros.

A car on the driveway has the registration mark covered over. confused
Perhaps the Police anticipate some kind of jiggery pokery, I cannot think what.

In addition to missing money, it has been reported that 30,000 SNP members are also missing.
Could there be some kind of connection and where might they be hiding ?

Hope this situation is not repeated in the other devolved country. That really would mark the end for TVR.

Yeah they should build a faster train line to the north. I am on a train from London to Yorkshire right now. I commute at least once a week. It’s far too cheap as it stands. £250 return plus car park. I reckon they could easily charge me £350 if it was faster. The thing is the 2 hour train lets me get some work done. I’d get less work done if I got there faster but the extra £5k pa is ok. Albeit I can’t claim it as an expense anymore so it comes out of net income. Thanks hmrc. So it’s really £7.5k on top of £18k. So that’s about £25k that I am contributing to this great country just for commuting. Oh damn forgot to add on fuel costs.

The answer is very simple.

Industries and businesses change and evolve.
An extreme example of course, is Kodak film for photography.
Industries can prosper, but then be overwhelmed by changing circumstances. Nothing that can be done by governments or anyone else. Governments do sometimes try to intervene (eg. the Hillman Imp factory in Scotland), but those are usually no more than short-term expensive fixes.

I had an ancestor alive in the 19th century, who started his small woollen cloth manufacturing business in the Caerphilly area and made a fortune. In his will, he left 2 woollen mills, 2 mansions, 6 farms and 46 houses in Cardiff.
Try to replicate that today and you might be able to make a few jumpers, but you would soon 'lose your shirt'.
Circumstances were ideal in the first part of the 19th century, making those products in Wales, but certainly not after the 19th century. He took the right opportunity, at just the right time.

In Cornwall, the tin and china clay industries enjoyed great success for a long time. Eventually though, their customers became aware of much lower tin prices, so began to purchase from overseas. The same circumstances arose for china clay, where I think Brazil became a big producer. Also happening was the decline in popularity for high price quality, china and porcelain products. Younger generations are happy with IKEA tableware, whereas their parents might have had a costly Royal Worcester dinner service. The Worcester Porcelain company ran out of customers as well, but the museum still operates, although might not have to rely on profit to continue.

UK coal mining faced a similar situation, although the miners who we all have sympathy for, blame entirely a lady Prime Minister.
British mines were (probably) all, or mainly deep mines. Therefore expensive to extract coal. Much cheaper overseas coal became available, partly because ships were bigger for lower transportation costs, but more importantly, because only JCB type equipment was required to shovel coal out of the ground. Result customers could buy cheaper coal. Would you pay double, if you were a coal buyer ?

So there you are, as the wooden wagon wheel production manager said, "If your industry does not adapt with changing times, we lose our customers, our jobs and have to close".

Same here. I thought Francis Drake had an involvement.

My famous ancestor, Gwilym Ilid (spelling ILID), might have written a poem about whatever happened.

hehe

I think that might indicate German roots.

No, Welsh poets adopted their own bardic names.
Saint Ilid is a semi-legendary saint of Wales.

Interesting how an ancestor who died in 1869, is now referenced in Google searches.

How life must have been so different then.
No PH, no cars, no airplanes, no supermarkets. Might sound bliss, except most of us would be cold every winter, poor and many medical difficulties were untreatable. I would certainly not swap the comparable comfort of our 21st century, for his life.

The 'free' NHS has now become overwhelmed by increased demand (many governments did not expect the huge number of babies born 1945 to 1950s, to become old and unwell) together with the ever increasing capabilities of advancing medical science.
A 5 hour wait in A & E now, must be wonderful compared to an 1860s doctor telling you, "I am so sorry, there is nothing that can be done to help you. Go away and lie down."

Makes us feel very thankful for life today.
