I need a set of rear bumpers for a 2500M (a 1974).

I am wondering if the stock bumpers are the same front and rear? I heard anecdotally that they were, but need to be sure.

Thanks -

Rocky

Front left same as back right.
Front right same as back left.
On my 3000M i made them from triumph 2000 front bumpers cut down. Closing plates tig welded then rechromed.

Thanks, Alan…

2500M Bumpers might be easier to find!

Appreciate the reply…

1974 should have black rubber I believe. Chrome was, I believe '73 and earlier. I am open to be corrected.

My '74 2500M has rubber bumpers. Have purchased a new set from Adrian Venn.

At the time there were rubber and fibreglass versions. My interest was for the fibre glass units as I wanted to be able to modify them slightly to get them to fit tight to the body with little-to-no gaps. Have seen some M series cars with the bumper deleted but I am going for a visually unmodified looking car when finished. I wanted to keep the bumpers but streamline the look bit by getting them tight to the body.

I have a 1976 3000M and i fitted chrome bumpers.
Personal choice but i like the bling effect. When i bought the 3000M it didn't have bumpers so it was an easier choice for me. Someone gave me two triumph 2000 front bumpers free. I have a friend who is an expert welder. To rechrome was the only cost.

Ah, I see. So September. Quite late in '74 then. I had thought the cross-over was '73.
I wonder if production was greater toward the end of '74 because many of the '74s I see are clad with black bumpers.

Anyhoo......the big fail with the rubber bumpers was that the steel bit encased in the foam would rot ant split the rubber cover. No fixing them at that point. The chrome ones would never suffer from that problem.

Lots of helpful info in this thread…. Thanks for all the input.

My car is an early ’74, it has black steel (I think) bumpers on the front, none on the back….

There are also the black urethane over stainless steel ones John Wadman made, and if you’re going for light weight there are fiberglass ones out there. Come to think of it, mine has fiberglass up front and urethane in the back.
