As the add says, it was a tax dodge for 1970s Italy where the tax doubled on anything over 2 litres. Ferrari did a 208 (a 2l 308) for similar reasons.

Lotus too, selling the Stevens X180 Esprit as a 2 litre in Italy with a chargecooler. It did so well they sold it here later as the Esprit GT3.

There are a few rare TVR 350 / 400s out there, I think with a supercharger, the 350 SX. smile

My mate used to own a Ferrari 208 which was there equivalent of a similar attempt to get around the laws. It was rather slow I remember and one day I was at his in my Tvr and he asked me to drive behind him as he was worried it would break down biggrin
That’s the day I realised my Tvr was a great car as that thing was terribly unreliable though in fabulous condition.
