Just been cought speeding in my TVR
Discussion
Good old North Wales Police. They were responsible for my 3 pointer too. But 53 in a 30? You were rather pushing your luck, weren't you. I accept that there are a lot of 30mph limits in North Wales that aren't very built up but all the same...
Why should you be afraid to have a blast in your TVR. Stick to NSL roads at (not too much over..) NSL speed and you'll be fine.
My insurance hasn't changed at all. Their attitude was 3pts? Everyone has got *some* points these days...so I wouldn't worry. Just be damn careful in 30 limits from now on.

The A55 is an NSL road....I didn't think there were any 30 limits on it....or are there? That weird bit where two lanes go through a tunnel and two lanes follow the coast - is that 30mph? No-one does 30 through there...I certainly don't.
Was it there, Mathew?
Oops. Bummer, ain't it? Especially as the road was probably perfectly OK for 53mph.
'than hide away behind parked cars with a radar gun at 8.30 am on a Sunday.'
I beleive ACPO guidelines state that officers (I use the term loosely) must be in clear view and wearing the appropriate uniform. They are not supposed to hide behind hedges. However, they are only guidelines, and besides, if you saw the Plod first and slowed down, you'd be 'safer' and kill fewer children (according to fashionable theory). But they wouldn't want to let that stand in the way of £60, eh?

53 in a 30 past parked cars (can I assume the area was built up ?) at 8:30 on a Sunday morning, sounds like you deserved it
MATHEW said: Thanks for that I know I am to blame but I can't help but think that the Police should do better things with their time than hide away behind parked cars with a radar gun at 8.30 am on a Sunday.
It is such a bitter pil to swollow.
PS If you do that past my house your next post is going to be "Just been victim of road rage"
Edited to say: Nice car BTW, any chance of a close up of the dash

I don't think any motorist can say hand on heart they have never broke the speed limit. But at the end of the day you were doing 53 in a 30 limit, end of story. As for the police having better things to do why should they let you break the law and not someone else.Sorry if it sounds harsh but 99% of people caught speeding were speeding.Speed limits exist and if you choose to break them on your head be it.By the way I have just gone down from 6 points to 3 on my own licence, so I speak from experience.
I haven't got a clean license either, but I reckon that if you were going 53 in a 30 past parked cars and didn't see the bloke in the HV dayglo yellow jacket with a hairdryer, you possibly weren't driving to the conditions. Bearing in mind you didn't see him in time to slow down before he zapped you, if he'd have stepped out, could you have stopped before you hit him? Be honest.
I know it's sh1t when people aren't sympathetic but it sounds like this was a fair cop.

Come on guys, get off that moral high ground
we all know roads that have limits that are crazy, this may or may not be one of those. We also all know that we ALL break the speed limit, so it's OK at 70 then is it?
Lets show a bit of sympathy and cut the guy some slack. Even if it was his own fault (and if so I am sure he knows it) he's still a petrol head same as us

Simon, we're all making assumptions
Mine were
There are parked cars, therefore there are houses nearby
In these houses at 8:30 on a Sunday morning there will be people (probably in bed and whether they needed waking is another point of debate, also I don't know if any of them have kids, dogs, numptymicradrivingoldrelatives).
Now I could be wrong (hardly the first time) this could be a 30mph limit in the middle of nowhere where some people have decided is a nice place to park . If this is the case then surely you're going to spot a jam sandwich, or get done for DWDCA, or think "I wonder what these people are doing parked out here best slow down to just under twice the speed limit" FFS
Harsh, maybe. So, MATHEW, want to give us a grid reference so we can eat our words

Shit Happens - best take it like a man. Not alot else you can do. I got done 14 years back in a 3000M - first offence 70 in a 30, 9 months / £450 fine (should ahve been a famous footballer (tosser) W**kers - then would have had a month ban and similar dosh in todays money.
Lifes a bitch - time and place for it.

Not a case of moral high ground Simon but a case of fact.Because you do not agree with a law it does not give you the right to break it.But at the end of the day the limit was 30 and he was doing 53.No offence(pardon the pun)but he was'nt going to get any sympathy was he?
I know this doesn't help you now, but to enjoy your car these days you need to be a cunning fox and invest in a valentine one detector and bell laser jammer!
Result plenty of prior warning as to where the ***ts are hidding and if they are lucky enough to zap you you can fry their handset )
Just a thought of course and I love traffic cops really
