Craigw said: fair point swilly but if I'm already overtaking someone who is either in the slow lane or middle lane I don't expect some idiot to be undertaking me to save a cars length. As soon as there is space I move over. Get off your soapbox 'cos you know what I meant

-- below I use "your" but this isnt aimed at you personally, replace "your" with "another driver" its just quicker to type...

I agree, Im not an idiot tho..
1) it takes three CLEAR lengths to skip by like this. I leave 8 or more
2) I DO judge speeds to ensure your going the same speed as everyone else, and NOT overtaking at all.
3) it was a ONE OFF for testing!! and its quicker
4) you may not LOOK to see if an object isnt occupying the space your moving into, but I AM LOOKING to make sure I can react if you do. an escape route is ALWAYS available in my plan of the manouver. (hard shoulder in emergencies - no I dont have a problem using it for limited periods.) this is your fault for not looking, not mine, but I plan for your unplanned non mirror checking manouvers anyway.

5) ever seen a bike skipping through two lanes? you dont look, you will kill. not injure, not annoy, kill. its rammed into you on a bike test to plan around drivers, you are taught to assume you are invisible

6) complain if you like, but I wont change my views on motorways, if you cant follow the rules, I wont either. (if your in the wrong lane -and Im in the wrong lane ; who is worst? [yes its me but see my point?])

-- I ONLY abuse those that are abusing the rules, I dont undercut when it isnt blatant lane hogging.

when employing ALL the above, im not an idiot, but probably in less risk of injury, and leaving myself much more room for others errors. (ie not tailgating in the fast lane at 70mph ; not misusing the overtaking lanes ; leaving plenty of distance to cars in my lane ; watching ALL traffic either sides ie watching BLINDSPOTS

and finally --- it was slow moving traffic, which the rules clearly state : stay in lane - if outside lane is moving slower, continue regardless, or something like that. This is what I was doing, switching to the fastest moving lane as appropiate, not swerving through traffic, it was a heavy bank holiday, motorway at 40-60mph, not high speeds, I was just using the lanes to my advantage.

sorry - sounds like a rant, its not. I just dont have time for lane hoggers and people that dont check blind spots when lane changing (to either side), as a biker, it gets annoying to be cut up EVERY day. I will tell everyone to just take ONE bike lesson, just to appreciate the extra driving awareness that everyone really should employ.

PS: you may be in the RIGHT to move back into the inside lane, but assume that there can always be a stolen/police/drunk/idiot car anywhere+anytime, the only way to avoid an 'accident' is to check

NB, check out the teaser video here for complete lane abuse;;;

ps. for the record, I always check my blind spot&mirrors but have occassionally been caught out by people blasting down the inside lane(quite often a biker btw)

"New" Peugot 205 GTI 1.9 versus my fairly standard looking rally prepared 1500 Cooper S. He was so stunned when he finally caught up he pulled me over (nicely) and asked what the hell was going on!

To me priceless...

My aged 350i against a 330Ci BMW. Excellent scrap - he lost. No sense of humour though.
