Spoke to TVR just now. They have just spoken to the Blackpool Gazette and have been assured that the story will be retracted as the source was not to be trusted.

Typhoon is still very much in the plan according to TVR.

i suspect the problem isnt spending £120,000 for a unreliable TVR

How do you know its going to be unreliable? They havn't built it yet. I have had a 4.5L V8 Chim and I now have a SP6 Tuscan and these havn't been unreliable. I will also have, within the next few weeks, a Tamora (as well as the Tuscan), and I don't expect that to be unreliable either. confused

I neva sed it was gonna be unreliable ,but a lotta peeps on this forum seem to think so, im glad to hear u've had a problem free time with ur TVRs

Great, but previous announcements have left a little to be desired in the reality department recently

I love my Sp6 but...

Being across in the US right now I just happened to pick up a US kit-car mag (they're a lot more serious about kit-cars over here than the UK) and came across an ad for this website: www.turnkeyengine.com

Have a look. You can buy a 700HP supercharged V8 for $19ishK, that's around £11K! And that's a turn-key, drop-it-in-and-connect-it-up crate engine. Okay that's probably developed at a lower RPM than an SP6 so it won't howl but 7-0-0 friking HP for £11K!!!

Unstressed. Reliable. It makes ya think

You've gotta love responses like that from people who don't even put what car they've got on their profiles!

So, do we have any news on Smallinsky's plans? I roughly remember he couldn't make it to Geneva last year, as he probably didn't found anyone to ship a car there. Or he didn't even found a car to show. He's probably back in school now.

TVR is dead. The vague Press Releases we occasionally see are no more than the twitches of a corpse that hasn't yet come to terms eith the fact.

Think of it as the activity a chicken shows after it's head has been severed.

For what it's worth, I had a coversation with Dom @ TVR Power and the bossman (Michael I think) at Henley Heritage and both hinted (in fact Dom more than hinted) at something positive and concrete happening in the near future - the yanks are a smokescreen, little Nicky's still involved redcard (perhaps he understands Meccano by now!!!)yikes

Neither would be drawn on what - but something!!!! Don't hold your breath.

If TVR is going to do anything it better be good and it better be quick. I don't believe in this . . . cabaret.

If Jaguar makes a £40k F-Type, with the rumoured turbo 3.2 i6 in the front, driving the rear wheels, with some 'gorgeous' styling, there will be absolutely no point restarting TVR.

Or buying a Boxster/Z4

... it will weigh well in excess of 1,600 kgs and come with a slushbox as standard. biggrin

I hope TVR give up on this idea soon as its just a complete waste of money, time and effort. Lotus saved itself from oblivion by building a low cost high performance (originally intended to be low volume) model and they struck gold.

If a niche manufacturer is in trouble as TVR certainly is, what they need is volume sales, build a simple, basic, cheap sports car that sticks to the TVR ideals of Power, and performance at a low cost and building soemthing a bit special. Personally I'd have gone with something Z4 sized with somthing simple and reliable but very TVR like the old 4.6 (I think) V8 from the old mustang and style it as only TVR can.

If their is ever to be another TVR it needs to be something like this, that can be sold to TVR enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike, previous TVRs have suffered because of a reputation for unreliability and poor build. These need to be addressed before and then people will flock to TVR because who wouldnt like a simple, basic, reliable TVR, for less than the price of a Z4?
