Apparently you should never polish / wax in a circular motion as any swirls will be highlighted by light from any angle; best to polish along a single plane, any marks therefore less likely to catch light and be visible. Funny what you pick up innit?

I've always found Mer to be really good as a wax protectant, the recomended way to apply is with a damp cloth so it's not as abrasive as other polishes.

My MGB was painted 10 years ago, always used Mer on it, and it still looks as good. Used it on my S3 with a dry cloth and it's cut the swirls out.

I know it'll sound like it, but I do not have ANYTHING to do with Zymol... i have just found the stuff awesome after trying everything else.

Admittedly Autoglym gets a good finish, but it doesn't last. Take the car out in nasty weather and the rain has stopped beading off the paintwork well within a week. Zymol looks as good but lasts for aaaages. Easily several months (and probably most of the year if you're a summer/sun/weekend-only driver).

I use the Titanium wax on my MX5 as its got a durable finish and I can't be bothered to clean the car that often so it can really start to get covered in crap before it gets a clean. But after I clean it, and rinse the car, the water just sheets off and you barely need to chamois it to dry it.

It *is* expensive, i'll give it that - but the amount of wax you'll actually use means that one pot of that stuff is going to last you years.

They do do lots of different waxes for different applications. The standard Carbon/Creme waxes are 40quid a pot, but i'd start with Titanium at least (60 quid). I've tried both, and the Titanium is worth the extra.

The detail waxes (Concours, Destiny etc etc) start to get quite pricey, it depends how much you want to spend really. The titanium leaves a perfect finish on my MX5. I'd go with that, or maybe this one for fibre-glass on a TVR. If you ring them, they'll tell you which is best for your car (and they won't sit their trying to sell you the $1600 pot of Vintage wax! Who spends this much on wax anyway!!?!?!!? It is lifetime refillable tho.. lol!)

Orders on their website (www.zymol.co.uk) come with free delivery.

Don't know anywhere else you can get it to be honest. Its not the kinda stuff you can buy at your local A1/Halfords etc...

If laquer is anything like paint or a clear coat finish (don't know the lingo-I'm from America)-- I would recommend that you use a product called Mothers California Gold Clay Bar-- It cleans and polishes your finish to the point that you won't even feel any scratches with your fingertips. Here is the Mother's website-- I thought you might like to see it: www.mothers.com/products/products.html
