It surprised me that I never read something about a "main stream switch" or "battery switch".
It's a plastic red key which are normally used on boats to (dis)connect the earthing of the battery.
It's impossible to start the car without that key, so joyriders haven't got a chance. Especially when you place the switch out of sight.
It's also very usefull when you have to work on the electrics: you don't have to disconnect the battery: you just turn the key.
And, not quite important, when you smell something burned you easily turn off all the electrics.
For interested people: Hella sells a usefull set.
This switch can't be used in computer-controlled cars!!

My Chimaera has one in the passenger footwell. The only downside is that the damn alarm is a Cat 1 and goes off when it notices that the battery has been disconnected..

Anyone got a solution ?

If you bypass the switch with a piece of fuse wire, fine cable or inline fuse then alarms ECU, clock ETC would continue working. But if someone tried to start the car (without the cutout switch turned on) the fuse would blow cuting the electrics.

there's a better one! install a switch on no.2 fuse. that is the supply for the ecu. car will not run. alarm is perfect. no damage to ecu.
