These pistures are the early press photos from 95/96 when TVR first started with engine. They are fitted with the early green plug leads which caused problems, also the wet sump road engine hasnt got a crank or any internals in it as the crank nose is missing. These are just mock up engines from years ago.

I love it but if the original could take three years of racing do we really need something 'far more durable'?
The Q is: what is / was the difference between a race and a road-engine? Was the AJP8 strenghtened for racing?

How to get more peakpower: hotter cam / more revs / etc.

But is it still a driveable engine, what happened to the torquecurve . . . There's so much info I need to get a picture.

Question is what emission rules is it meeting?

Never gonna meet EuroV so what's the life of it?

Unless it has 4v heads and some close coupled cats.

Dinkel, the road engine has a single wing on the block and timing cover as it has one pump, the Tuscan racing block has 2 wings giving a pump either side and so looks more symetrical there are also specifically tuscan throttle bodies and fuel rails, there are many other differances but they are the main physical ones.

Surely you're not suggesting Melling is spouting hot air and guff on a Press Release?

But now Melling says he has squeezed even more power out of the unit, although an exact figure is yet to be published.

How much power some of the Cerberas are currently running..? Pretty sure I've seen 400bhp+ banded about following visits to Track Car Solutions and Austec, or am I wrong..?

You're not wrong; highest standard engine'd 4.5 I've seen is 429bhp, highest 4.5RR is 440bhp. smile

With the race version producing less than 100 bhp per litre it doesnt seem to be in a particular high state of tune.
The road version isnt producing any more bhp than the smaller M3 engine. Although it does have quite a bit more torque.

448bhp is certainly not to be scoffed at, but Austec have managed (slightly) more from a tweeked AJP (see PH'er HarryW).

At present, a press release and a photo of two AJPs.

Eventually, hopefully more AJP8s, though possibly more tree-hugging ones. As for reliability, I dont see much to upgrade, a sorted AJP is pretty bulletproof for an engine of that power/capacity IMHO.

So did he retain the rights to the engine design - or are the changes to get round such problems ?
