Just had a major service done on my chime on friday...
Ran absolutely sweet before the service...

Now It's running like a bag of s**t, and to top it all off I was getting a nasty smell coming into the car. (The sort you get when you smell ahot iron.

Got home, popped the bonnet open and low and behold, the o/s exhaust manifold was glowing like a turbo a full chat.....

AM contact the garage tommorrow, any ideas whats causing this horrible heating of the o/s manifold.

What does it say on the service invoice, the work that they did? If it runs like sh*te and the o/s manifold is glowing, maybe there is a blockage on THAT part of the system.
Just a thought.....

Hope she gets better soon.

O/s cooling fan... O/s mafifold overheating.....
Maybe related, or just co-incidence.
Best thing to do is just take it back to them and explain all. Might be something silly like the fan not re-connected. Hard to tell without seeing it.

Is the garage far?

Sounds like a major misfire. If this is caused by an ignition fault that would leave lots of unburnt air/fuel mix going into the exhaust which might explain why they it is getting hot under the collar. Since the engine is still running that seems to rule out total failure in the LT side, coil etc so I'd start by checking all the suppressor caps are on firmly and the HT leads are all secure. Make sure the HT leads are on the right plugs (firing order is 18436572).

Question: was it like this when you picked it up, and if so how could the mechanic possibly have missed it? Some explaining to be done I think.

Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

GET THE CAT CHECKED!!!!!
Catalytic converters do not like neat fuel. If the engine misfire has caused unburnt fuel to get as far as the cat cons you may be in for A hefty bill. Get the dealer to document the fault so that if the cats are sh@gged in 6 months time you have some comeback.

Go back and beast the dealers!! If the car went in OK and returned in the manner you have suggested, it's down to them to sort it.

Right peps update.....

Had the AA low ride the car to the garage this morning, out comes the boss explaining that he can't do nothing today, cos the TVR guy is off sick today!!!

Can you believe it, ONE GUY only......

Next time I go to a specialist, am asking for their history and some of the customers......

I had to leave my car there till tommorrow, and I have told them, they are fully responsible for anything that comes out wrong in the examination of the car.

Some main dealers only had one TVR technician. Just like dealers, I guess, indies can be good and bad.

Hmmm, if it was a lack of sparks to the cylinders, it would run rich - and richly tuned engines burn colder I believe, as the neat fuel acts as a coolant. Lean running engines tend to run hot, so maybe there is a problem with the fuelling.

Just a guess, though. Hope you get it sorted.

Bling....
I need a service soon, guess it's best to avoid these guys. Live in Guildford, hence why I ask. Please mail info offline as Ted perfers to avoid the name and shame.

Anyway these guys should sort you out FOC, let us know how it goes.

I'd be very interested to know who it was too - I have used one specialist very near Guildford and can't believe that this is their work - I have never been anything but astounded at the quality of the work in past.
