My S2 has the SS exhaust as well. I used to Sprint the car and found the noise levels varied from venue to venue by as much as 3 or 4 dB which is a hell of a lot! I think it depends upon the noise meter used and in one or two instances battery condition!
I have found that my S2 averages 102 to 103 dB, and have had from 101 to 105 dB. Basically try it at the noise test and see. I usually take loads of wire wool, chicken wire and a couple of Jubilee clips along, then if it fails pack the tail pipes with a handfull of wool each, wrap the chicken wire over the ends of the pipes and hold in place with the Jubilee clips. It works a treat as I found out at Castle Coombe.
A tip is to get them to measure the noise when the car is on grass if possible and with no other cars or buildings around to reflect the sound.

It's becoming apparent that with a sport exhaust fitted to my Griff 500 that I am not going to get on many standard (by noise levels) track days this year, which I am already getting down about as the weather is now just right for getting out there. The only solution it seems therefore is to get one of those clips or bolt on silencers for the tail pipes. Can anyone tell me where to get them from, how much and whether even with them on I could get below the 98db level that seems to be the norm at most tracks these days? Many thanks.
(Ideally I would like to get to Goodwood for 6th April and they are limited to 98db.)

Try Merlin Motorsports at Castle Coombe, they make mufflers that slide over the end of your tailpipe and are secured with a clamp. They do a range of diameters to fit most and are about £45 + vat if I remember correctly.
It's probably no coincidence that they are located at Coombe because it is one of the lowest at 100dB but Goodwood at 98 must be about the worst.
