Yep there is a Toyoda outside at the moment, but a boxster is promised for next week when they do the work.

believe it or not a new gearbox has to come over from Germany as PGB dont even hold them, so uncommon is it to encounter a problem.

As before I am well impressed by the service and this reinforces my confidence in the car.

Benno,

This work has gone from two day job to over a week! Earlier you said it would take two days, which I thought was pretty damn good for any manufacturer. But not actually stocking the gearbox!! You don't get that problem with TVR

While I am laughing my arse off at this, I am truely sorry to hear of your troubles. Hope they get it sorted ASAP! Then you can try and terrorise Flasher once more!!

Cheers
Stuart!

Ah benno, the old porsche reliability issue! Well, your driving a hairdressers car for 2 days are you...
Short back and sides please my good man!

Driven a Boxster have you, tvradict? I'll admit the lower spec engines are underpowered compared with (any) Tiv but "hairdresser" - I think not. Each to their own, mind.

Sorry Don, no offence intended! I knew you owned a Porsche but didn't know it was a god damn boxster! But your is a Boxster S so your ok

The hiardresser stuff was only a lame joke!!! We all know that hairdresser's cars are things like Renault Megane Coupe's!!!

Cheers
Stuart!

"don't worry sir, it's only a small problem but just in case we'll replace the enitre car. This happens so rarely we're totally out of stock of parts in the uk. we'll lend you a corolla whilst we fix it, 'cos it's faster than a boxster"

don't worry ben we still all think it's still a very NICE car indeed. very nice. oh yes

How many comments, where do i start.

The car is perfectly driveable as below the gearbox is just a bit stiff changing down in to second, nothing more.

The gearbox is going to be brand new and is coming over from Germany, therefore they said have the car back for a week. They will come and collect it, lend me something suitable for the 2 days it will take and then deliver it back, complete with new clutch for a £300 contribution.

Whilst I am suprised it needs a new box, the good service is making up for it and I know it is saving me a fortune against what a clutch would have cost were it not for the box coming out anyhow!

I think the level of service is very suprising given it is 3.5yrs old and almost 40,000 miles!!

Sounds like marvellous service on the whole, good work to that Porsche dealer.

Though I expect their service is based on the fact that they may be able to get you into a new 996 or something even more pricey when you come to trade up!

Not that I am saying there is anything wrong with this at all, I just wish that TVR dealers would see the long term plan!

Or how about?......

Workshop manager to mechanic......
We've got another one of those knacked gearbox jobs just come in.

Mechanics reply...........
Your bloody joking aren't you? that's the sixth this week, I suppose its wrecked the clutch as well like the rest of them.

Manager.........
Yeah, I think so, but don't mention anything about that to the punter, I conned him into stumping up for a new CP himself.

(Sounds of belly laughter in garage).

Mechanic.......
Well I can't possibly start it this week, we are absolutely snowed under with jobs.

Manager......
I thought you said there was very little servicing work in this week?

Mechanic.........
I did. It's not servicing that's causing the back log, it's all these bloody brake downs. These dam things seem to spend less time on the roads then Tony Blair spends in the country.

Mechanic despondently mutters to himself........
Somedays I wish I had stayed with Lada.

Manager.......
Oh well, it's not that important anyway as it turns out, we've run out of gearboxes & I've just about every other dealer in the country and I cant find one anywhere, seems they're having the same problems with their Carrera's. We've got 20 new boxes coming form krautsville next week that should help clear at least some of the backlog.

yeh funny, for christs sake if a thread was opened every time somebody had the slightest problem with their car then this web site would get pretty boring.

As per earlier, slight stiff gearchange in to second, promised a new gear box and offered a clutch cheap at the same time. Mad not to really!

Gearbox is on order but car is perfectly drivable and therefore I would rather be using it as opposed to it being sat in a dealers compound in pieces for the next week. IT does not happen with a Porsche but some other car workshops look like elephant graveyards with cars less engines and interior all over the place.

Sheff3 - you forgot

MECHANIC
Did you tell him he'd get a Boxter as a run around

MANAGER
Yep - works every time.

MECHANIC
Corolla

MANAGER
(unable to awswer - as he's on the floor in histerical laughter !)

But seriously - us TVR & Lotus owner's can only dream of the kind of after sales service you seem to be getting and as you can tell - can only get even by ribbing you senceless about it.

This thread about 1 Porsche moment will probably run for week's !!

I've heard that Porsches have a spare engine & gearbox in the boot, so I can't see why any of this should cause a problem.

Doesn't your's have any passengers seats then bennno?

Tough break mate - I'm sure it'll get sorted - the Germans are very efficient with replacement parts, my A6 window motor only took seven weeks to arrive.

As I recall the passenger seats in any 911 are, errm, vestigial.

Benno. I'd be interested - how good are the rear seats in yours, and importantly, is it a convertible. I'm considering changing from a Boxster S to a Carerra 4 Cabrio.

Not sure though. The bits I want are Glass Rear window and better performance. The "occasional" rear seats could be handy in the odd 3 person emergency too.

Not sure I can leave the mid-engine handling proper roadster thing though. Your thoughts would be welcome...

Don,

I meant the front passenger seat - even TVRs have them
