I spent £120 on fuel in my first week driving my Chim 4 around and enjoyed every litre. However, I've noticed that high octane fuels vary in price and are always scarce.

I live in the Thames Valley and yesterday paid 84p/litre in Hungerford. Can anyone recommend where they get slightly less pricey fuel from? (Shell/BP/Texaco???)

Think I've been "Shell"-ing out 79.9 p/l for Optimax round Bracknell and Farnborough........

Optimax is 79.9 in London recentley, and thats high, usually pay about 76.9 for it.

I have found that the petrol stations in the busiest areas generally sell the cheapest fuel.

Slightly off topic, but how sensitive to different types of petrol are TVRs? Whats good and whats not so good? Sorry, kind of a loose question I know..

Simon.

wsfletcher, I am a recent member to the TVR owner fraternity, my first tank was (by necessity), standard 95 RON... 2nd tank was 98 and I "feel" that the car ran smoother, started easier and was generally more responsive to the throttle.

But then, this is all subjective and I am not an expert...

Forget the price, that V8 burble is all I need!

I was amazed at the difference Optimax made --the car runs much smoother. It works really well in my 4.0 Chimaera.

The shell scam of getting us all hooked while the prices are subsidised seems to have worked - It was 74.9 8 weeks ago and is now 78.9 - Well worth it though IMO.

I paid 79.9 in Woodford last night, which equals 89 miles from 20 quid, which is alot of money. But I definately notice that the car runs smoother than on 95 octane unleaded.

Can I advance the ignition by turning the dizzy to extract the most from the higher octane fule?
