Reading through the Castle Coombe track day from £28 thread got me wondering whats the best section/bend etc of arce curcuit that you've diven on? Cranner Curves at Donnington, Paddock at Brands, Esses at Snetterton etc..... Pandock for me is the best, get it right on the way in and get pushed into the seat on the way out !!!!

Cramer Curves at Donington at over 100mph in my modified Taimar (if you lift in the middle you are a wooss), a quick jab on the brakes, slot it into 3rd and flick it through the Old Hairpin powering through, lots of committment and you soon catch up those Griffs and Cerberas!!!

David (and his ducks, though the ducks haven't got any nomex shreddies yet!!)

1=Fordwater at Goodwood, a real "bottle" corner.
2=Paddock & the run up to Druids at Brands for that "I'm falling off the edge of the world" feeling.

Definitely with you on that one!
What's the fastest people have been through it just out of interest? I've managed 120MPH but i'd be interested to hear what Peter Humphries goes through at 'cos it's bound to be faster!
(For those who can't remember the corner, the first R/H corner after the pits is Madgwick, 2nd R/H is Kink, 3rd R/H is Fordwater, 4th L/H is StMarys, 5th R/H is Lavant, 6th R/H is Woodcote, 7th & 8th is Chicane).

I can tell you that last year the 520 went through FordWater at 138 mph on cold tyres but lost the back end after the apex and visted the tyre wall for a bit of minor bodywork modification. The data log was a bit frightening I suspect that is the upper limit. Just a tad over 130 is Ok though. again on cold tyres - us sprinters don't have the luxury of warm ups and things like that!

Pete has got through it at 134 I think but was sideways at the time.

It's always a bit 'heart in the mouth' when you crest Clay Hill at Oulton Park (the one with the tyre shaped pedestrian bridge), which is quite easily flat-out in a Griff. And the the following kink, and then the double-apex of Druids is IMO pretty hairraising.

Only done Craner Curves once, years ago, and I'd love another shot (why don't the TVRCC do many track days at Donnington?). Really gets the car sliding and pitching all over, and thankfully (for us mortals without huge racing budgets!) there's plenty of run-off.

DIGGA, never had the oppertunity to try Donnington but would love a chance to try the Cramer curves (though i'm sure i'd lift more than just a bit ) I think the reason it's not used by the TVRCC is cost, Donnington is the most expensive track for track days by a HUGE amount, not suer why though???

I've aloways wanted to try Deer Leap (Oulton Park I think) looks like another flat out bend for the not so weak of heart !!

Craner Curves (Hollywood to braking for the Old Hairpin) at Donington is amazing.
Also going over-the-top into Paddock Hill Bend at Brands,
Spitfires & Dibeni bends at Pembrey,
going wide into Sear corner at Snetterton
& all of the scary Nordscheife at the Nurburgring.

d drinks, Deers Leap IMHO looks more spectaculr than it feels (from the 'track day' driving seat) although judging by the huge accident in the Tuscan race last year - which blocked the pit lane entrance - it perhaps requires a more subtle proposition when racing.

The ripples on the back straight - from Druids towards Deers Leap - make things very interesting if the track is at all damp. I think it's the highest speed I've ever experienced wheelspin at!

Deer leap at oulton is a laugh - a tight corner, adverse camber and the ground going away.... hence leap. Not much runoff, either.

I prefer Tower corner and the three subsequent straights at Croft, which are really testing (just how much speed can you carry through?)

got overtaken once before the end of that run by a chimaera going backwards... he had lost it while braking behind me, did a 180 and continued backwards, overtaking me with his boot open.

Have you driven this?!!

God, I'd just love the chance. A Track Day at Spa is of the top things in my 'list of ambitions', though I think I'd be scared silly by the prospect! I heard, somewhere, of a Griff totally stuffing into the armco at the top of Eau Rouge.

Thing is, it's not just this corner is it? Theres those monster, flat out jobs on the way back to the Bus Stop chicane. Awesome.

No-ones mentioned Thruxton - Goodwood and Church corners for me are the ultimate driving test, can be taken flat out in my little Golf but then you really are hanging on for dear life.

Dear Leap (sp) at Oulton is OK but slower and more technical, the Mountain at Cadwell is a bit of a laugh. Always thought Eau Rouge was overrated, though maybe it would be more challenging if I had more than 115 BHP.... :-)

Fordwater at 120 backwards. Came to rest in the infield just before No Name.

Bomb Hole at Snetterton is rather nice for a satisfying bend.

Coram curve at Snetterton - the long, fast right hanfer between the Bomb Hole and Russell Chicane.

Flat spotted my front tyres there, when I misjudged the braking point for the chicane - Griffs don't take kindly to braking whislt in oversteer mode! - and the car swapped ends. Managed to avoid the marshalls post by looking in my wing mirrors!

Craner Curves at Donington. Laughed byself silly when Porsche GT2 lifted off throttle through there at track day in 1999. Banzai braking and throw the car through the "hairpin".

Gerards at Mallory Park - goes on forever, get it right and just as you think your off and into the scenery it opens out and you're off down the back straight quicker than you'd though possible.

Anyone had any good/bad experiences at Knockhill? The first couple of bends; down hill right, left, right off camber too i think. Never travelled all the way there to try it out in person !

Duffus Dip/Butchers (I think.)
Was there for a TVRCC track night last Friday - there was a spinner there in a Tuscan (Y8HOO)...
Not too much of a problem - I find the following Glenvarigill Chicane a bit more tricky to get right, the exit being just after a left/right, and over a crest, so the car is about as unstable as it gets. Been on the grass over the kerbs there a couple of times. But not the tyres... yet

Digga,

Yup! Several years ago I used to work on the GP circus, got the opportunity to drive my road car round the GP circuit the morning of the race when the road was closed, not driving at 10 tenths but maybe nine! the whole circuit is the best place to drive a car anywhere ever!
Another scarry corner was Russell at Snetterton before they ruined it
