Don't know who your dealer is, but they are having a laugh ... or at least would be if you went ahead with that work.

Ass Bennnnnnno says, get along to Offord (they advertise on here) and see what their conclusion is. I'm sure in this instance it'll pay to get a second opinion on a car you bought 7 months ago.

In response to the post from Blondie. You wouldn't have happened to have bought your car from an ex TVR dealer near would you ? This sounds a very similar story to mine. Not only does the car they sold me appear to have been 'ringed' (Police now involved), but when I took the car in to check out a bad shake on the back end I was given the following list of parts needing replacing.

Both front track rod ends
Both front wheel bearings
Slight play in the steering rack
Steering column bottom bush needs replacing
Both driveshafts UJ need replacing
Rear suspension bushes need replacing
Propshaft UJ needs replacing

Bearing in mind that the car had been MOT tested by this dealer when I bought it 12 months earlier, and that the car had only covered 3500 miles in that time I felt that they were trying to rip me off. Still have not decided what to do with car with Police enquiry still on going. Although, would you believe, the Police will not press charges against the dealer as 'they would have to prove that the dealer knew the car was ringed'. For Christ's sake the car is a 400se on a 1982 plate. It only took me a few phone calls to find the truth !

This dealer in my option is to be steered clear of.

Did you notice any of these oil leaks? It sounds like the car is being powered by a muslin bag. Quick tips - is the car surrounded by Greenpeace boats? Does the garage floor look like a Kuwaiti beach? Has the oil price suffered an unexplained increase in Cambridgeshire?

Sump gasket £282

You don't mention the age of the car or what it is. When you've finished arguing with the dealer take it down to an independent (as Mike says, Offord seem fine). Alternatively, bring it over to my place (I live on the Cambridgeshire border). Most of the things on that list can be confirmed by a jobbing amateur like myself.

I would contest that anyone who knows about TVR's (any specialist car for that matter) would not worry about a non-TVR stamp in the history. Quite the opposite in fact!

Good God, yes it came from am (ex) dealer near , yes I've checked my driveway and there's not a drop of oil on it! I've now sent an email to Mr Dealer Name, brother of famous race car commentator and am awaiting response. The car was sold new by them, then traded in and I bought it. It's a 97 TVR Chimeara 5.0 and this was suppose to be the 30k service.
I will take your advice and unless they do it for free, I'm taking the car away tomorrow and paying for the £600 service only, they must think the blond has sunk into my brain. Having owned lots of American V8's in the past, none of which suffered from an "inability" to retain oil, I am disappointed.
What a response!! Thanks everyone, I'll keep you updated

Bloody (ex) TVR dealer near
One year ago I bought an R plate Cerbie 4.2 from them. 16,000 miles immaculate. £27k.
Not too happy with the way it drives - look underneath - shock absorbers obviously knackered (despite dealing having done full service weeks before). We'll change them for you. OK. Still drives poorly. Not that fussed. 1,500 miles later need annual service. Ah sir, your front shock absorbers are worn out and you also need new springs, anti-roll bar and tyres, due to bad suspension settings. But you did all this 1,500 miles ago. Did we? Oh! The lying b*stards....................

PETROLTED:
Sorry guys but this was getting too close to the mark. The dealer was being clearly identified, facts were incorrect (dealer is no longer a TVR franchise) and there were accusations of them being 'lying bastards' and 'ringing' cars. Can't have such accusations made on a public forum I'm afraid, too much of a legal minefield.

Marshy can re-tell stories about the same certain dealer... Nearly bought a car from them and I am glad to say that I didnt (sorry for the people that did). It really frightens me to see so many bad reports coming out about said dealer. I occassionally hear about other unhappy customers from their other franchises - and there are plenty of them...

It seems that it is not just TVR but the dealer as a whole. If you trace back their history they have lost so many franchises it is frightening - most recent being TVR.... In fact www..co.uk doesnt seem to be working now - worrying?

Cheers,

Paul
