Thats my K-series Spitfire
Thats my K-series Spitfire
I converted my 78' Spitfire engine and tranny over to a 76' Datsun B210 GX engine along with it's 5 speed tranny. They are both virtually identicle, with just the exhaust and carbs on opposite sides.
I put on a Weber sidedraft carb to lower the engine height, and increase it's performance.
I had to cut and rebalance my Spit's driveshaft about 3 in, make a simple bracket to mount the tranny, and make a small plte for the left hand engine mount, and cut a piece out to make the oilfilter fit.
This job took me about 6 hours to do, and the outcome is awesome!
I had been using 1500 motors, but went to 1296 cc Spit motors, because they were more reliable, but a 3 main crank will just not last. Datsun B210 GX is a 1600 cc motor, and totally dependable.
From 1980 until 1993 I went through 13 engine rebuilds for many varied reasons, and am still driving the Datsun motor today, without a single problem, other than replacing my differential, new set-up may have over powered my car a bit!
