Hi,

I have a 2000 (00-07) V70 T5.

This is a problem that's developed over the last month. As you brake at speed (motorway speeds) I get a pronounced vibration coming through the steering wheel.

It doesn't feel like a brake disc issue as I've experienced that many times before and I usually feel that through the pedal and it's also noticeable when braking gently to a stop... you get that pulsing braking sensation. This doesn't do that.

It's more pronounced if I do it while going round a bend. The wheel shakes quite a lot and the car doesn't feel terribly stable.

The car doesn't do it to any noticeable degree at low speeds... say slower than 50mph.

There's no uneven wear on the tyres and although the car is vague compared to what I'm used to it drives perfectly apart from this.

I've had a look at the steering arm connections and the wishbone bushes and they all seem fine except I'm not sure about the front wishbone bushes. There is some play in them but I don't know how much play is normal.

I've uploaded a quick vid to youtube which hopefully shows how much deflection I'm getting for not much force...

Could someone have a look at that and let me know what they think or if anyone else has any ideas they'd be gratefully received.

The discs/pads are about 4 months old I guess. I replaced the old discs as they were very worn.

Thanks,

Mark

Its most likely to be a worn suspension/steering joint. Jack the car up and check everything for excessive play.

Otherwise, I once had some brake pads that were a bit stuck in the carrier and they started to give a wobble under braking. Took them out, gave the carrier a thorough clean to stop the pads sticking again, and the issue gradually went away, must have made the pads wear strangely.

The 850's and V70 Phase 1's are prone to knocking out the lower arm bushes. On my 850 I fitted powerflex bushes which tightened it up no end.

Sorry, forgot to update this... fitted some new OE wishbones and the problem went away so the play in the front bushes must have been excessive.

Thanks,

Mark
