saab aero 2.8 shocks?

I have just bought a 2006 saab 9-3 aero. Its the 2.8t v6.
The previous owner had just replaced coil springs and suspension drop links
but there is a thudding from front right wheel. It is worse at low speed and going over a tiny bump makes a real clatter. There is oil on the spring too.
Does this mean the shock has gone does anyone know please?
