As per the title, So I go out this evening to meet a girl from work, when I start the car after a few seconds I got a vibration and a creaking noise from the passenger footwell and the abs light started flashing. The car drove fine and the brakes worked as normal (I immediately brake tested it to make sure it was safe to drive).

So I go to meet the girl from work and we're sat in a car park having a nice chat when it does it again, only more harshly and louder this time, again abs flashes as it vibrates.

It does it again a few minutes later but stops when I press the brake pedal, which is not vibrating. I then decide it need looking as asap so drop the lovely lady off at her car and nurse it home. Of course it is puring down with rain and one of my Dads cars is in the garage so I cant get under it tonight to investigate. It is a vauxhall Astra mk4.

  • Engine at idle in all cases.
  • Handbrake applied in all caes.
  • Abs light flashing only for the duration of the vibrations.
  • Applying the brakes seemed to stop both the vibrations and warning light.
I dont suppose anybody has ideas what the issue could be?

On occasion both the Traction Control and ABS lights stay on after the other lights go out, this is a sensor issue, and both will go out if I turn the ignition back to position 1 and then forwards to 2 again to illumiate the lights on the speedo.

Is this the sensor giving up and the abs activating on one side pumping the brake despite being stationary?

If you already know you have a sensor issue, your starting point is to sort this out & then see what is happening.

Although in all honesty I doubt this will be the problem.

It does sound like the ABS is being activated at a time when it shouldn't boe, so while you are changing the sensor have a good look round the system to check it all looks good.

Its been on its best behaviour today. I can only think I did something by pressure washing the underside. The hub will get done asap anyway, having to reset it everytime I start the car is irritating. It doesnt actually affect the abs functioning either way which is strange.
