Winter tyres vol 2
Discussion
I ripped a hole in the side of one of my fronts tyres in April; was no big deal at the time as I just swapped onto the summers.
However I now need a new front tyre - Continental WinterContact TS830P 225/40/18 - so far my best is Camskill at GBP122. Anyone know anywhere cheaper. I need to do this soon and avoid the winter rush.

Have a look at pneus online and oponeo
Oponeo is where I got the full set from; they're 122 for a replacement, and (according to my order email) they were 142 when I got them for the fronts - result! I've just ordered one now; waiting for October is too dodgy - they'll be sold out or gone up. i think the TS830Ps have been superseded now, too.(I didn't order from Camskill even though I'd rather spend the money in the UK; last time I ordered from them they were happy to take the order and then called me a couple of days later to tell me they didn't actually have the tyres).

Looking for some winter tyres to leave on all year long
Had a look at "tyre leader" and found a few candidates. However got a large unexpected bill arrived from the taxman so price is now a big concern.
What would anyone here go for? (other suggestions welcome)
Out of those I've only heard of the Nokian's (and heard good things on here about them.)Had a look at "tyre leader" and found a few candidates. However got a large unexpected bill arrived from the taxman so price is now a big concern.

For a few quid less (£74/corner) Oponeo have got the Avon Ice Touring ST's, a midrange tyre that a few people were running last year.
The others I've not heard of.
IIRC the consensus on budget winters was that even the cheap ones will work in the snow are generally pants for normal, non-snowy driving. So I wouldn't run them personally, even on a budget.
I know there's a price differential there, but get the Nokians - the WR series is perfect for the UK and can even cope in Sweden up to a certain point (had WR G2s on my Pug 607 that coped admirably with snow a couple of feet deep but definitely less grip than the Hakkapeliitta Rs I use now on the V70 - no way you need them back home BTW!).
The Coopers would be a good call if they weren't already three seasons old in the warehouse - then it's lottery depending on how they've been kept.
The others I guess are all Chinese tyres - I had Nankangs one season that came with the car and survived, but never again.

Car 2005 Vectra C Estate, diesel and used mainly for commuting down dual carriageways, A roads and B roads. Live in NE Scotland so snow is a definite possibility.
Looking for decent grip, reasonable longevity (had an evergreen tyre, grip was ace but it went down to the wear bars in <13K miles on the front)
So bearing in mind the above
Anyone know if any of the following are any good?
http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/westlake/sw6... (hmm bit loud)

http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/goodride/sw6... (same as the westlakes me thinks)
http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/cooper/weath... (Coopers but...2011 manufacture date which makes me wonder how long they will last before perishing and how their grip compares to newer compounds)
http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/nokian/wrd3/... (would like these but more money amd price is a big concern at the moment till this bill gets dealt with)

All of those will, in all probablility, be awful with the exception of the Nokians.Had a look at "tyre leader" and found a few candidates. However got a large unexpected bill arrived from the taxman so price is now a big concern.

Personally I'd be fitting Continentals or Goodyear Vectors.

Are you sure you want to do that?If you need the winter performance you may find that summer use has hardened the tyre (or even damaged them) to the point where you might as well not have bothered.
An "all season" might be a better bet?
Do NOT leave budget winter tyres on year round, they are simply appalling in warm wet weather (eg most of our summer).
The Bridgestone A001 currently seems to be the best mix of all season ability for the UK climate, but there's some options.
