I'm wanting to put some all season tyres on my Mum's Polo. She lives up in the Yorkshire Dales so it's always wet and they do cop for snow in the winter. She doesn't go on the motorway or racing about. I'm leaning away from the Cross Climate to something a bit more wet and winter focused. Goodyear Gen2 or the new Bridgestone A005?

For reference in the past she's used winter tyres but it would be more convenient to just use the one tyre from now on.

Nokians WR D4 says it's "The world's first premium winter tyre for passenger cars that offers wet grip in the EU tyre label's best A class in many sizes."

Thanks. I've got those on the wife's car. They look quite chunky for all year round use, but given the mileage my Mum does they would probably by fine.

I've never put a lot of faith in those EU labels. I don't know how good they are?

I’ve got them, wet grip is great. They got me to Leeds and back from Lancashire last winter when the M62 was shut due to snow.

We ran (still have in the family) a Honda Jazz on full winter Michelin Alpin's year round. It was absolutely fine - the tyres look 'normal' and the ride and noise was unaffected. They even wore much more slowly than the Dunlop SP2030's the car came with from new.

I picked up a set of 4 of these on eBay for £160 last winter. Had hardly been used. 245/40/18 for my Subaru WRX STi. Absolute bargain. Bought a set of Subaru alloys off Gumtree for £400 so went with the full winter set.

Great tyre, not too soft, quiet and fantastic grip in wet and snow. When they need to replaced I will go with Nokian again. Had Vredestein and Dunlop winters in the past, both also very good tyres but for me these Nokians are amazing.

When is everyone sticking their winters on?

I run Continental Winter Contacts every year. I normally stick em on when the first onset of a little snow hits.

I know they should go on earlier but I'm too lazy!!!!

I picked up a set of wheels with Michelin Alpins fitted for my E46 a few years ago for less than £200 and they worked really well in lower temperatures, particularly when it was wet. But I never got to try them in snow.

Then I replaced the E46 with an E91 just before the Beast from the East arrived - but it came with fairly new Bridgestone Blizzaks and they were excellent. They'll definitely be going back on in the next month or so!

Last week I was ‘forced’ into putting my winter tyres on because of some tyres swaps etc I was doing. I sit here at 23:10 mid-October with the following temperature outside. At this rate I will never be able to justify winter tyres again!

Having sold our E-class, I am now in the process of trying to sell the winter tyres left over from the 2-months it ran on them. Chap collected one pair this morning. Four more to go... Yes, there's a story as to why we ended up with 6 tyres.

Anyway, proceeds are going towards winters for my GL except the £300 generated from the E-class tyres aren't going to make much of a dent in the £1100 I'm going to need.

They seem to perform pretty much the same all year - one is virtually virtual - rarely leaves his screens (plural), whereas the other one seems to be all-weathers.

Don't suppose you want a trade for a stroppy teenager?.

I'll take 2 bags of walkers plain crisps and a pint of milk.

I might put mine on (they've been stored) next weekend simply because it's convenient as for various reasons they're stored 250 miles away which is where I'll be. Haven't decided yet. They are UHP winters (forget what actually, I think a continental of some kind) but nowhere near as good as the current PS4 shoes so...

TS850's or the likes? (they did a TS830 and the latest are the TS860's).

I'm thinking of swapping shortly too. It's just done then.

I usually aim for around the clock change. Last year I was waiting for some TPMS valves coming before I could put them on my wife's car and I ended up fitting them as it was snowing... rolleyes
